Crystal lizards drop them. Giant crystal lizards drop them. And you can eventually buy them when you get the Dragon Chaser's ashes from Archdragon Peak.

i don't think you can farm those, only farming souls and buying them

Nope. They are just past the Great Belfry bonfire. But be warned... there is a mob that you will have to pass inorder to get to them.

^This is very true. Another thing to add to this that I didn't mention earlier is that titanite scales are expensive.

Yes he is

You don't actually have to get past Havel to get to them unless one of the summoners happens to summon Havel. The first one rarely does, the second also rarely but if not Havel he summons Ricard (much quicker to deal with).

The most dangerous thing getting the ashes is the effing rock lizard by them that will send you off a ledge if you forget he's there lol

sadly, upgrade materials like titanite and gems can't be traded
