So here is what i am confused on. I get you need to die at least 16 times to get the 5 levels. And in order to complete the game with the other chick and the alternate ending, you cannot "cure" yourself as it is a fail with her. So, does that mean for the rest of the game you cannot use an ember on yourself?

no lol also you dont need 16 deaths, its 10, every 2 deaths yoel allows you to use your true strength, there being 5 levels you get 10 deaths, also embers work the same you dont lose them i failed with her by literally removing my dark sign for 600k souls.

You can use embers, that isn't what "cures" hollowing. There's a certain item atop firelink shrine that can cure hollowing with souls, doing that will fail the questline.

So basically you just dont ever remove the darksigns and you will be fine? And even using said ember will not reverse said Darksignage?

Are there any negatives to just ramping up your hollowing/darksign? Like if you got the max darksign amount, will it affect you in any way?

Don't cure the darksign, and you can use embers as you please. If you don't want to look like a raisin when you hit 15 hollowing, you can buy purging stones from Yuria when she arrives. Doing that will remove hollowing level but not darksigns.

The only thing you get out of hollowing is looking like a raisin, and hollowing can also be useful on luck builds.

She appears after Yoel dies, so after you get his 5 free levels.

Might as well say this too, make sure to get the 5 levels before fighting the Abyss Watchers. If you kill the watchers and enter Carthus without getting the 5 levels, Yoel will die and Yuria will not appear.

Well i just got my 5 levels, and he is still alive. Is there a secret to getting that other person here quicker? Cause i dont wanna look like a zombie forever lol

Try reloading firelink. If that doesn't work then you might need to defeat a boss OR the Watchers.
