Slave knight gael tips and tricks
So I finally reached this boss after attacking the twin demons early this morning and wanted to see if anyone knew some good tips and tricks. I already know I can't beat this boss alone. I struggle enough getting though phase one. currently I'm using vorts hammer for the frost damage but I am guessing that may be a mistake.

Vordt's hammer is alright but be careful with how greedy you get with it. Irithyll SS could perform just as well and is a much safer option. Gael himself is weak to the Hollowslayer Greatsword (20% extra damage to hollows), Farron Greatsword and the Wolf Knight Greatsword (both have 20% extra damage to abyssal enemies). He is also very weak to poison/toxic. A storyteller's staff could perform very well on him if you use the weapon art.

His attacks can be pretty easy to learn, but one I should warn you of is a slam that turns into a upward slash. If you guard with a shield while he does that attack it will likely guard break you, and that can be bad since he follows up with an attack afterwards.

like alice cooper would say - poison, rolling works as the best strategy; in the first phase the best window is after his jump attack, in the second phase roll behind his right hand, in the third phase weapons that can damage from distance are useful + melee once he does his two spins attack

I'm a high STR build but currently lack a poison weapon. I like using great weapons (Hammers axes swords) I trade out what weapon type I use based on stats and damage weaknesses. so I will have to make a poison great weapon to try aginst him. I can also throw poo at him.

You could always buff a weapon with poison. You really don't even need to keep applying the buff, the poison itself can last entire phases.

Thanks for the offer but for now I am taking a break to help out other players. I just wanted to get some tips for when I do try him again. I did attempt him for about an hour already learning phase 1 and some of 2. I will casually admit that I am not the best player.

That's not always a bad thing. In fact asking for tips would help you improve. Practice is the key to success.

Thats why I ask! I want to get better and see what I can do better to take down these awsome bosses easier. I can try a buffable weapon with poison. or just use a poison gem. maybe on the curved greatsword.

Does he have a phase 3? I thought I saw that he did and if he does what is that like?

He does have a phase 3. It's basically a turbo-mode phase two. Seriously, poison will make that part much easier for you.

Rodger dodger. I will give that a try. I may stick to poison gem and nerf my overall damage because I don't like cycleing though items too often.

You could always switch to an secondary weapon like a straight sword that has a poison gem buff. If I remember correctly weapon upgrades wouldn't affect poison buildup.

Does luck effect poison build up or is it just bleed? as I am low on luck/faith/int. pretty much pure melee build.

Yeah but it shouldn't matter too much, it'll only take a bit longer to apply. You could always use a ghru weapon and buff it with poison, since those weapons have innate poison.

I can give that a try. thanks for the information. ghru weapons are pretty easy to farm up. now if only the area they lived in was more intresting.

What NG cycle are you on? He hits really hard but 1200 seems like a lot to be taking. These days I usually sit around that same health pool or less and do fine.

Also what's your build? if getting one shot is a problem you could change up your tactics if you're able.
