There is an advanced version for dummies, let us know when you're ready.
1. After you get a few hits in and your opponent rolls away, hug them closely. They'll usually try to take a few swipes at you to shake you. Use this opportunity to throw in a parry, this is the easiest method and works the best once you get a feel for it.
2. Take subtle jabs at your opponent and keep backing off. Keep distancing yourself and eventually, they might try executing running attacks to try and chip away at your health. Once they give chase to you and try a running attack, parry them. This works well.
3. R1 spammers. I'm overjoyed when I see these types of people. Your timing doesn't even have to be particularly good, as they won't stop spamming R1 and your parry has a pretty good chance to land.
There's not really much else to cover. Just learn to read people and eventually, setup parries and parries, in general, will be extremely easy to perform. I run Hornet Ring and the Target Shield in my build and I often deal 1,000-1,300 AR with a riposte with my Sharp Dagger. Great way to end a match.
Kind of an obvious statement, but it also depends on the connection, not just your skill.
