Why do people like Midir so much?
Just fought the boss for the first time in new game +2 and, though I had high expectations, it was probably one of my least favorite fights in dark souls 3.

People have told me they like it because how of challenging and epic it is. Well... I legit died a few times when his health was getting low because I was so bored I tuned out and stopped paying attention. If one of the final, supposedly epic bosses kills you because you were so bored you started thinking about whether you wanted hoddogs or tacos for dinner, that's a bad sign.

I mean, it's just him slashing at you and breathing fire. He deals obscene damage and has a ♥♥♥♥ ton of hp, but that's not exciting or interesting, that's just... lazy and stale. All his attacks are stale. He has like 5 variants of slashes, 3 variants on the fire-breathing attack and sometimes he explodes, and that's about it. Nothing scenic, no combos that evolve and get longer and more complicated as the fight goes on, no odd timings to get the hang of. Just extremely standard slashes and fire breaths.

And that's not even mentioning how frustrating it is to hit that head sometimes.

It's their opinion. Everyone has their own reasons for liking something. You thought Midir was boring, others disagree. Simple as that.
Don't understand why you're getting bored. He takes about as long to kill as maybe demon prince.

It's meant to be your standard dragon fight, and although it doesn't reinvent the wheel it still does the standard dragon fight well. If you've fought kalayeet in DS1 then you're likely not going to get anything new. My favorite fights among the DLC are Gael and Demon Prince, though the former has some overly flashy attacks that aren't really effective.

Though in all honestly you have some absolutely ♥♥♥♥ taste in bosses if you honestly believe that Midir is worse than Ballsack tree, Yhorm the gimmick, Gankers of the deep, and even Aldrich to a certain extent.
Yhorm had the potential to be a super cool boss fight but they made it so easy by adding in the storm ruler has basically the only effective thing to kill him with. Sure, if you have basically infinite stamina, time, and damage output, you could kill him without it. But literally no one has all three of those things. Same goes for the ancient wyvern. The way you're supposed to kill it will one-hit it.

Fights like the dancer are amazing because they actually require skill. You need to have quick reaction time, good gear, and most importanty, like I said, skill. If there's any way to 4-5 hit kill a boss (cough, yhorm, wyvern), it's not a good boss fight.
Also, deacons are cool in theory but are actually just a bunch of normal enemies that swarm you.

Well, having like the third boss in an ultimately not-very-important area being boring and frustrating is one thing. Having one of your last bosses, many people's last boss to the series being bland is another thing entirely. And I think to compare Kalameet and Midir to be very unfair because at least Kalamet had a unique aesthetic with his one, demonic eye instead of just being a black dragon (that's blind I guess?) and being one of the most aggressive bosses in the entire series.

Why do I think Midir is worse than ballsack tree, Yhorm, gankers and Aldrich?

Ballsack tree - At least a bit unique. Haven't seen it before in the dark souls series and not nearly as drawn out as Midir. But fine, I can say that Midir is about as fun as ballsack tree.

Yhorm, yeah pretty boring, but it at least has the edge lore and scale-wise. At least it feels pretty cool to use the stormsword to bring down a big fukken giant.

Gankers at least has the decency to be over quickly.

Aldrich I'm not sure what your problem is, he struck me as a solid 7/10. Unless you hate mage bosses I can't imagine what your problem with him is.
Because the Midir battle was amazing, especially lore wise. It's the ultimate test of endurence the game has to offer, and there's not a more punishing boss battle. In fact, one could argue that it's the hardest boss in the entire series. Dragons within the series are supposed to be some of the mightiest creatures around, mighty enough to give Lord Gwyn trouble. So the fact that the fight was so hard it was borderline unfair actually had some merit to it.

"Ahh, dragonslaying. Knighthoods highest calling". Every Dark Souls game needs an epic dragon to slay towards the end of the game, it just feels proper.

An endurance fight doesn't have to be boring. My problem isn't that the Midir fight takes a long time. My problem is that her moveset, arena and visual style is incredibly bland.

In fact, one could argue it's the blandest fight in the entire series. Dragons within the series are supposed to be some of the mightiest creatures around, enough to give lord Gwyn trouble. So the fact that teh fight had nothing original or exciting about it is shameful.

Let's be honest, Midir, if you take away the lore, he is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ fight. Straight out. He has very few moves and half of them are just slashes or bites. All of them have standard timing. Remember the nameless king, how his mix between almost instant and slow attacks was really hard to get used to and threw you off massively? Yeah, there's nothing like that with Midir, all his attacks are predictable. And aside from his explody-thing and the laser breath ( both of which he almost never uses), he doesn't even have any scenic attacks. No cool, massive animations for awesome attacks or anything like that.

Tl;dr: My problem isn't that Midir has a lot of hp and deals a lot of damage. My problem is that her moves are bland, her arena is boring, her music is nothing special and her fight becomes a 15-minute quick time event after you leanr her moves.

The excessive HP pools of Gael and Midir are what ruined those fights for me; they become tedious. At least I can poison Gael with the Storyteller´s Staff, so the fight becomes more enjoyable, but Midir is a yawnfest.

I prefer Friede´s fight. It´s also a long fight, but each phase is unique, short and sweet.
Well is the most epic dragon fight I've ever had in any video game hands down I've never fought a Dragon this epic is this the only other one I can think of that comes close is the one in Dark Souls 1 none of the crap dragons in Monster Hunter can even compete.. you can even see the rage in that dragon expressions as he fights you think developers hit it dead-on. If you can think of a video game that has a better more rage-filled dragon fight please let me know.

But yeah I will admit does have a little bit too much hit points there four causes it to drag out a little longer than need be but still

His aoe blast in phase 2 looks epic af, focusing his head opens him up to a riposte near the end of the fight, he's bigger than every other dragon fight in the souls series (apart from maybe Ancient Dragon from DS2), and his moveset is quite varied (multi-smash combo ending with fire breathing, airborne fire breathing, various claw attacks, several different grounded fire attacks, a charge, tailswipe, lazerbeam show, aoe blast, dark orbs, and a bite that roasts you if you get caught by it).

I feel people hate on Midir purely because of his high health. His attack patterns mightn't be particularly complex but he's got a few tricks up his sleeve that will catch you out if your attention wanes momentarily.
But Did You Get 2 Ripost Him?

Midir is one of the legit hard bosses of Dark Souls 3. Yes, he can be annoying at times, particularly camera management and how he takes barely any damage at all. But that's what great about him - fighting him feels like an actual process and not just another game of rolls and rolling attacks like some other games. There are attacks you cant block, there are attacks you can't dodge, there are attacks that are perfect openings for free damage.
Basically, he puts skill and patience to the limit, and that's kinda what one would expect from a game such as this.
