PVP guy that staggers you with axe
There's this guy either running a shield and axe or double axes and the first hit ALWAYS staggers you, even if you have hyper armor frames, allowing him to hit you two more times. What axe does this?

Dragonslayer axe

what are you using for a weapon? different weapons give different amounts of hyper armor.

Winged knight twinaxes.

* You need more poise.

Because I suck at PVP and have NO self respect, I was two handing the astora ultra greatsword *lowers head in shame*. I fought this guy twice, the first time he axe/shield with lightning infused dragonslayer axe, the second time he used the winged knight twin axes, also infused with lightning. I thought I was being cheap cause I couldn't be parried, but he just trades blows with a build fully spec'd into health and stamina on a weapon that can't be staggered, is, well, STRAIGHT ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ CHEESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yo, settle down a bit, I haven't met anyone that started off doing well in pvp so no reason to beat yourself up over it.

Just accept that until you have enough knowledge, death will be more frequent. Just make the best of it, and when you die to something you didn't know, process it

That aside. Those axes are really and I do mean "REALLY" easy to parry. Get an iron round shield --- make it + 10 --- don't infuse --- block first 2 hits --- parry --- riposte --- win

I couldn't stagger him with a two handed ultra greatsword, is what I mean. I hit, he swings right through. So, at a poise of 30 he can stagger with one axe swing everytime? He does 100 points poise damage with one right bumper swing? WTF? He wouldn't stagger me once I started the swing, but if he caught me moving I would stop dead in my tracks, and he would get four shots off me everytime. Also, I couldn't even run away from him? He ran faster than me ?!?!?!?

Not getting salty, just curious.

Ummmm ... obviously you'll get staggered if you're outside active frames .-. ... we don't have poise in ds3 ... only frames in which we don't dagger with certain weapons...

btw you only got hit out of your stance because the twinaxe swing is still faster than that of an Ultra greatsword.

if you ever stagger while using an ultra greatsword roll away immediately.

What's your poise? Just because you have a big stick doesn't mean you can't be staggered easily, especially by that beast of a weapon.
Also if you were hitting him, he should be staggered. The winged knight twin axes have no hyper armor except for the WA.

I would get hit with the lighning infused axe and hear a shock noise and my toon just stood there unable to move or roll.

I had the lothric knight pants and top for around 25 poise, I'm only SL 45.

Yep, you need more poise. Like I said, the winged knight twin axes hit hard, especially with the L1. I have 32 poise on my main and then 37 with the wolf ring +3 and it works great. 42 poise is also a great sweet spot and you can get that with the exile armor.
25 poise is understandable for sl 45, so don't sweat it. You can reach a lot of poise with the +3 rings from the ringed city, maybe get vitality up to 15.

So lightning infusion adds poise damage? Is there a mechanic thread somewhere I can read? Armor below a certain threshold seems to be useless.
