3 hit the nail on the head for what I like, because my favorite part in Dark Souls was the bosses and the atmosphere, both of which were better in DS3. The game is pretty linear in world design but the maps give you huge expanses to play around in, and they're hardly ever linear.
1 used to be my favorite but my opinion of it kind of dropped when I played DeS because I always saw DS1 as being the original boi of the series, when in actuality DeS is. It also probably has the worst combat in the series, but the best exploration by far, because the first half might aswell be just one area. The second half of the game also sucks big time. Shame they're not changing it in the remaster.
2 is my least played game because I felt like it was the polar opposite of what I cared about with Souls. There was an overall focus on multiplayer and PvP balancing, but the PvE content felt so stale and filler. Maybe I'm just biased after a salty release. I played SOTFS, and the PvE was definitely improved in most parts, but it still wasn't exactly high standard in my opinion. The combat system definitely pathed the way to be better than DS1's atleast, and the game is non-linear in world design.
Wot
DS2, aka "the tunnel in disguise", is not linear?
I mean, just because the hub leads to a few different areas doesn't mean that the areas themselves aren't linear.
But I do like power stance in DS2.
Never played DeS.
DS1 remains my favorite because of the interconnected levels, the fact you level up at the bonfire and do not have wrapping from the get go.
I also like the bosses more than in DS3, they feel a bit more varied in shape (appart for the three re-skins of the Asylum Demon of course).
And the atmosphere of the game is just great.
I loved DS1. Something was just missing in DS2 for me, not sure what it was, but I just couldn't get into it. Loving DS3 so far, cleaner mechanics than DS1, less clunky etc. I'd say DS3, but it's close, lagrgely because of the sentimental value of DS1... had never experienced a game so engrossing in game play, so frustrating and so unique.
2nd. DS2.
3rd. DS1
Ds2/SOTFS have the best memories for me, pvping, making new builds, meeting new people. And some of the best DLC.
Ds3 is my least favourite but still a great game. The bosses are definitely an improvement after 1 and 2 but to me something was missing, it lost its charm along the way.
Demon’s Souls will always have the best atmosphere in my eyes.
Ds2/SOTFS>Ds1>DeS>Ds3
Ds3 is probs better than DeS though.
But you know the cop out saying
“I LOVE THEM ALL EQUALLY”
Dark souls 2 for the world exploration and PvP
Dark souls 1 for the thrilling atmosphere the little bit i was able to play of it it really gave me chills
though some of this is lost with the remaster due to Light souls however i'll have the added bonus of being able to play with anyone and help out lotsa people
