and Ashen Estus Flask.
Andre can reallocate your Estus flasks between standard (HP) and ashen (FP). There's a hidden mechanic whereby you regain an Estus flask when you gather enough souls. The values are fairly random and it appears to happen more if you have at least one level worth of souls with you. Not something you can count on but it's better to use Estus than hoard it.
A good mage build actually has 40 Dex as this maximises your cast speed. It also allows you to use Dex weapons like the Lothric Knight SS, Friede's Scythes, Aquamarine dagger etc. There are some very effective melee mage weapons. The Lothec SS is best infuces sharp, for S scaling in Dex, while allowing buff spells hor huge damage.
Huge thanks. This is very useful.
Too bad I did not know about the Dex thing. My Dex is low.
Is Sharp an element ? I had no idea. I do not understand the last part of the sentence (buff spells...).
In matters of FP, I have come to always have a Simple gem infused Dagger in the 2nd slot of my left hand, as well as usually a Simple Bast ard Sword in the 2nd of my right. They make for a good enough fighting combination, especially for PvE. I always hold them both out if I'm not at full FP and I'm not in combat. The FP that regens during my walking and exploring ends up being quite a considerable amount. On top of that, if I enter an area I know is full of easy to kill enemies, I switch my Simple Bast ard Sword to the Executioner Greatsword, which restores 6 FP per kill. By the time the area's clear of enemies, again, considerable chunk of FP back. And if there are enemies I can backstab, I also equip the Aldrich Sapphire ring, which gives 15 FP per backstab/riposte.
Using all this leaves me topped off on FP 80% of the time, and that's with me casting Tears of Denial upon being summoned and acting as a constant healer with my Warmth and occasional Great Heal/Bountiful Sunlight.
Just before I cast any health regen spell like Warmth or the other three, I also quickly equip the Dusk Crown ring. It'll use less FP for that spell, but I'll lose a chunk of my total health. If I was already at max health, that means I'll be missing health when I take the ring off, but because I have casted a regen spell, it heals up rather quickly.
