I'd actually recommend against the buff banner on this particular weapon. The two handed moveset is pretty much the point of this weapon.
Being parried is a pretty complicated topic to just bring up like that, but I'll bite. Most people can't parry reflexively, so if you avoid the baits and mix up your moves, it won't be a huge problem for you. Same applies to all other weapons that can be parried. Using the faster, short ranged and pitiful hitbox one handed moveset won't solve this, and someone using a smaller weapon with similar range will outspeed you.
As for the weapon itself, you have to consider the weapon as a whole.
-It weighs 9 units
-The stamina consumption of the category is a tad higher than something like a straight sword
-The weapon art is a mixup that also gives you poise
-edge hitting someone, which is easy to do with the two handed moveset, grants you bonus damage
-The range on the two handed moveset is so great, you can play the range and spacing game with ultra greatswords if you're careful.
-The one handed moveset has such an awkward hitbox, you will sometimes not hit a guy if they move slightly in one direction.
-This weapon will hard counter a shield, which is optimally paired with a smaller weapon that will try to get close to you and swing fast.
