PSA: Use Whips
I never see anyone use these, and I'm glad: these things are OP if used correctly (by correctly I generally mean under 30% weight, otherwise even I agree they are kind of trash).

They have an insane range, and even more so with the Weaponart.

Whip tier:

#1: Spotted Whip - Although on most rankings you will see this listed as the "worst weapon in Dark Souls 3", they are mostly referring to PVE, which I have to admit, this would not get you far. However, this thing is definitely a hidden gem in PVP. The Weapon Art causes about 3-5 hits if you are hugging right close to someone, and that isn't too hard to pull off, considering its high poise dmg. Each hit increases poison, and even hits that don't land dmg may increase poison buildup. Definitely use with Rotten Pine Resin, or else this is just a downgraded whip. Many people might say that poison can be easily nullified with poison moss, but I've noticed two things from my experience with this weapon:

A: Most people don't take the time to eat the purple moss.
B: If people try to eat the purple moss, it leaves them standing in the open.

#2: Default Whip - Basically spotted whip with about 30 more dmg and no poison buildup. Still a great weapon, but not as good as the spotted whip.

#2 Aswell: Witch's Locks - A very nice whip for people doing pyromancy builds or otherwise just fire based builds. If you are willing to put in the stats you can really see some results from this thing. Although it is unbuffable, its weapon art coats it in flame, dealing a lot more damage than basic whips.

#3: (worst whip:) Notched Whip - Although in concept this sounds like an upgraded Spotted Whip, I have literally never pulled off a bleed with this thing, even with Carthus Rouge. Not to mention, I stated earlier that the Spotted Whip can cause poison buildup if it doesn't connect. Although this whip does cause bleed dmg even if it doesn't connect, you'd best hope it doesn't: For some reason, you are able to roll through bleeding, and take no damage from it, completely nullifying the effects. TL:DR - bleed bad.

If anyone here wants to say that whips are a bad weapon, you can feel free to PVP me at the pontiff. Just comment below, and if I'm online and in the mood I'll PVP you

How do you play? Do you keep walking backwards during the whole match? I hate that about whips.

They're nice with a fast weapon in your other hand tho.

Also, the Witch's Locks don't get a mention?

And the Rose of Ariandel? That's probably my favorite offhand weapon.

Alright, to answer your question:

Basically, your bread and butter attack is the rolling attack, as you shoot across like the whole arena. Also, your regular light attack is good for rollcatching, as it is horizonal.

For Witch's Locks, yeah I guess I'll add that; I've used it before on a pyro build.

For the Rose of Ariandel, that isn't really a whip. It might say it is, but it's more of a flail. For me, a whip is something that can extend very far, something the Rose is incapable of.
