What if I told you that there is?
then again i've done about 10 full playthroughs so my opinion is biased.
you might have went there too early... there is an alternate path you can take out of crucifixion woods to another area (no spoilers). the other area is for lower level characters, farron for higher. both are necessary eventually but might as well do them in the order intended.
I just take the hp drain and remove the debuff at the bonfire while clearing the area in sections. I will put out the fires first and then collect all the loot in the zone before proceeding to the boss.
There isn't anything really challenging in there and the HP drain is really slow.
There must be 1 essential poison/swamp level
I love it, the enemies are awesome, the atmosphere, the boss(es). The way you can climb up to the top in the "fresh air" and look at everything below you (and fight another mini boss).
They put these areas in every dark souls game. Just wait until you get the the toxic sludge areas. You'll love that.
Cathedral of the Deep can be done before Farron keep...
Areas that damage you constantly have been in games for more than twenty years. Most of the areas like this planned for games end up being cut due to the area being too hard and or annoying.
