Can't level up!

At first bonfire, finally beat that hedgehog boss after like 20-30 deaths. Says I need 757 souls to level up I have over 4k souls. But when I sit at the bonfire it just gives me the option to Leave?

You don't level up at bonfires. Talk with the firekeeper.

Talk to the Fire Keeper. Girl with the blindfold over her eyes. She'll give ya the option to level up.

You don't level up at bonfires like you did in Dark Souls 1.
You level up in the Firelink Shrine, by the fire keeper lady.

It's not DS1, you level up with Firekeeper in the Firelink shrine. It's after the boss.

Thanks guys, I now remember you had to level up with the NPC in Dark Souls 2 as well.
