HELP!! DARK SOULS III or The Witcher 3?
I only have enough cash to get one or the other. I can't decide which one to get. :spazhorror:

I know The Witcher 3 is much more story based, and Dark Souls is mostly hack 'n' slash. Both seem like great games, but I just don't know what to get.

Please help me decide!

witcher 3 combat is boring

DS3 is story based as well. You just won't understand anything from it unless you read the item descriptions. To me DS3 seems like a better option, but both are great games. If you will buy the Witcher though, I would recommend you to read the books first. (I have the Witcher 3 too, just not on steam)

I don't know much about the Witcher 3, although calling Dark Souls a hack n slash is kind of insulting. The game has a very detailed and timing based combat system. Also (again, don't know how Dark souls 3 would compare to Witcher) Dark Souls 3 has one of the best stories of any game I have ever played. The story is hidden and the game must be analyzed to learn more, but it is very good.

Dark Souls 3 barely had a story, what are you talking about?

Dark Souls has difficult lore. it's lore is based of descriptions of items and it's more "self found" rather than "stumbled upon". Both games have rich lore and story but witcher 3 is more quest and story oriented while Dark Souls 3 is just "different". I finished Witcher 3 times with all expansion on gog and finished DS3 once off steam (bought game out of respect for the devs).

Witcher 3 is more noob friendly but is nearly as hard as Souls game on higher difficulty. I absolutely love Dark Soul series but Witcher 3 wins this battle. Make use of winter sale and buy Witcher 3 with all expansions to experience the game as much as you can.

Dark Souls 3 has a somewhat vague plotline that is brought together by both extremely well designed characters and powerful themes. It is not conventional, but in the end it comes together to form a solid story.

Yes, the Witcher is a lot more Hack'n Slash like. But even there I would feel that to be way too degrading. DS3 has a very interesting combat system with a ton of different weapons and build styles. In witcher you have a sword and a few spells. But f you don't delve into DS3 the way I did, the Witcher 3 offers more content for its price.

unless you want to get into NG+ or pvp the witcher 3 is probably going to last you longer content wise, i'd say go for that & come back for this when you have the cash.

And no, you don't need to read books or play previous Witcher games. Every Witcher game has complete context to understand story without knowing other games or books from the universe.

If you want to experience the story then Witcher 3 is a way to go.
Dark Souls 3 is also a great great game, it's just different.

depends if after you finish the game you do runs with other builds, help hosts with bosses, then invasions, then duels...if you are just going to play through it once however get witcher 3.

regarding the gameplay comments dark souls 3 is definately better however to make witcher 3 challenging play it on the hardest difficulty since you actually need to prepare before big fights and use oils/bombs/potions in order to progress also making it more 'immersive'. I made the mistake of doing my first run on normal and just hack and slashed my way through everything with no preparation what so ever and thought the combat was boring.

I would endorce buying the DLC-s for DS3 too, if you decide to buy it. Or at least the Ringed City.

From what I understand, Witcher 3 is probably better for a new player who doesn't dig as deep into their games (which there is nothing wrong with that). Dark Souls 3 would be a better investment for a player who goes beyond the surface and is willing to invest time.

Yes, of course. If op decides to buy DS3 then buying DLC is nearly mandatory to make the game a complete experience.
