Die as much as you like, the game doesn't get harder or easier.
1 is you will not be in the embered state meaning you will not have a 30% buff to your health and you can not use other players summon signs (how ever seek guidance will allow you to use other players signs with out being embered). But as a sorta good thing is you can not be invaded either. Not dieing while not emebed does nothing.
2 you will loose all the souls you have collected. You may retreive those souls by going to where you died and touching your blood stain marked by a giant green orb. But if you die before touching your blood stain you will loose those souls for good.
So really the only punishment is loosing souls which is the same for all souls games but in preveious souls games the more you died the less HP you have till you hit the cap I guess and stayed at half of your max health.
I need to work on it, this game is seriously hard.
Also if you're having too much trouble with the first boss don't be afraid to make a new character, it's easiest with the Knight kit due to the sword and shield. Good luck man, it's a fun game, just keep trying and the rhythm will kick in at some point.
Thanks! I do play a Knight. Does the shield block boss weapons? I thought the best tactic is to wield 2-hand, automatically thinking he would squash me if I try to block or parry strikes. Well, I gotta try shielding too, died probably at least 50 times into him lol
NVM that is correct...... They really need to be more clear on item descriptions. I get it that it's suppost to be "mysterious" and "causes the player to thing" but when it comes to what it actually does it doesn't need to be described by some crazy old man.
I just want to say thanks for asking this question. I laughed out loud, or LOL if you prefer. To be clear, I am laughing with you, not at you. I have died at least 1000 times and I'm not yet half way through the game. Never have I played a game as difficult as DS3.
Thanks and still smiling... Roll
Well, we are much alike Pelaaja. I thought I was going to have to give up my hopes of playing this game after being crushed by Gundyr 30 times. I finally won by staying in close and hammering away at him, and then the Abysis monsters, legs. It didn't happen right away, I tried it over and over but got a little farther along each time until one battle I was surprised by big red lettering saying Gundyr was dead. Happy day for me. The joy was short lived though as I struggled to beat the next monster, and so on and so on. I'm stuck on Yhorm now but with help from the group here, hope to put him down.
Keep at it, you'll get him.
