DARK SOULS™ III

DARK SOULS™ III

Statistiche:
Greatshield of Glory needs a change (buff). Badly. For real.
I believe GS of Glory is probably THE most underused shield in the game, if not the item in general. I haven't seen a single person using one and i doubt i will anytime soon.

The reason for that is simple: despite having the best stability in the game (85, +5 more than Havel's shield) the thing reduces your stamina regeneration by 20 raw points.

What does that mean? Well you have a default stamina recovery speed of 45. That speed is affected in % by items such as Chloranty Ring or weed.

However GSoG reduces the FLAT number. From 45 you go to 25 making it a hard 40-45% nerf of stamina regen speed. It ALSO means that now all stamina-regenerating items have lesser effects too.

This makes GSoG the most unpopular item in the game because it makes your stamina regen so bad - you will spend more time regenerating it than doing anything else. And no one wants that, absolutely no one.

Buffing the shield's defensive properties further is of no use, stamina regen is so bad - by the time the enemy opens for a counter-attack - you won't have enough to do so anyway, and even if you do - you will have none by the end of your counterattack and enemies are free to do with you as they please. Who on earth would want such a masochistic experience?

Stamina-nerfing effects of GSoG must be changed, badly. Anything above 10 flat points or 25% of stamina regeneration speed is absolutely unacceptable.
Either change it or make GSoG just another generic greatshield with no unique properties what-so-ever. Even that will be better than an abomination that we have now.

Do you understand that absolutely ALL shields in the game are useless?

As someone who actually uses them (and does so with skill and dedication) - no they are not:
Katana running R1 spammers - countered
Throwing knives spammers - countered
Unexpected phantom range - countered
Attacks so fast or badly telegraphed you cant dodge on time (curved sword / rapier R1) - countered

Also shield-poking with something like Greatlance or Lothric Knight Spear is a legit tactic that works pretty well with anything above 60 stability.

And i'm not even talking about PvE where those things are life-savers sometimes.
its used for challenge runs.....
also the Calamity Ring

so it begins here. people have already forgotten the "good old days". and by that i mean the horror of greatshields.

I understand calamity ring but ruining a beautiful shield like this? I don't see the point at all.
They clearly made it an item that was supposed to be used for combat, but it's main downside overlaps any upsides (or rather the only one).

As i said: the debuff itself is not the issue, its how powerful the debuff is that renders the shield an abomination that you dont want to have.
Can't unseat Havel as the biggest shield dude. I'm surprised by Yhorm's greatshield existing at all. They probably nerfed Poise specifically to counteract the popularity that shield would have had. Unthanks Fromsoft :(

I'm pretty sure it still exists, just not as popular anymore.
I've met a guy with dark sword + havel's greatshield a long time ago. It was pretty hardcore and i'm pretty sure i lost.

Yhorm's is good, but the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing is not for my tastes fashion-wise. GSoG on the other hand is freakin' awesome, but is extremely unpractical since it creates more problems than it solves.

the main downsides are also the 18.5 weight and the unability to parry.
every greatshield just restricts your possibilities. (my opinion)

hahaha how naive.
This shield gives you the highest block stability in the game, but reduces your stamina recovery. I think it's a fair price.

Well, yes, but as a Greatlance lover i found out that if you don't carry a shield with 60+ stabilty on you to compliment it with shield-poking - you're doing it wrong.

By this logic GSoG might be the best shield to go with shield-poking defensive gameplay, but the stamina debuff will have a devastating impact of rendering you the guy who waits 10 seconds to be able to sustain a counter attack.

It would be fair if it wasn't 40% of your flat stamina regeneration (which also nerfs all stamina-buffing items as well). That is a HUGE debuff.

Resource-managing becomes a nightmare.
i dont think that turteling is a good tactic overall. an good offence is best defence.
also there are ways to bring your stamina down to zero without your greatshield having a debuff.
Valorheart... a kick with horsehoof ring, knight slayer's ring......
when blocking you always pay a very high price compared to a dodge roll.

Swap it out. While it is not in use.

But. ya, I agree it's not that good.
