New to DSIII + Dex Build Advise?
I was only just able to play 1 and 2, and over the past few weeks I spent tanking my way through the first two game. I heard tanking doesn't work at all because they changed so much? I was considering doing a dex build, or even a dex + bleed build, since I hear bleed is pretty OP in this game.

I guess I put stats into Dex, Vit, End, and luck or strength? or just focus on the first three? Where should I focus on levelling up first? I'm not used to a dex build and would like some advise...

first of all there is a website called mugenmonkey with a helpful char planner:
https://www.mugenmonkey.com/darksouls3

ALLWAYS get vigor and endurance to 35 (all builds mentioned have them at 35) since they softcap at 40 and prisoners chain (a ring) gives you plus 5 of both and plus 5 to vit (best ring ingame)

Luck builds are ok for pve but suck in pvp.
If you want to go for a luck build I would go for 27 strength 40 dex and 40 luck. Or drop the Strength and go for 60 dex. Luck builds arent tooooo great overall. Use warrior

As for a dex build? I would go 60 dex 16 strength, 18 faith and 18 attunement so you can get filianoires chime, tears of denial and blessed weapon. Use Knight (or just get 14 attunement since blessed weapon isnt to great and put the remaining points into vit)

As for quality (40 dex, 40 strength)= get 40 strength/dex and 18 faith 14 attunement
filianoires chime, tears of denial Use knight
99 end, equip a katana, and then spam R1 to show them your peeveepee dex skills.

Or use mugenmonkey, really, you can see all the scalings for each weapon, infusions, and stats.

Thanks. I started as a warrior since it gives me the base 16 in strength already. I'll just start levelling up dex right away. I get 11 luck, vigor 14, end 12. It seems kind of a weird way to start, as a knight or warrior, but levelling dex instead. Though that's the beauty of dark souls. Your starting class only determines your starting stats and gear. You can change all that at any time.

14 Attunement gives you...2 slots? 18 faith would be for the scaling on those miracles I assume. Dex weapons usually don't scale with faith unless you have an infusion, but from what I've heard, the best infusions this time around have really changed. (I never liked split damage to begin with, anyway).

Though how essential is the attunement? I mean, what stats should I be focusing on early, with a build like that?

18 faith is to use filianore's chime WA, it gives a buff that regens 4 hp/s for 1 minute.

Scaling with only 18 faith is as good as nothing, you should use the mentioned miracles because they don't scale. Other miracles without scaling at 18 and useful in some situations are replenishment, force, caressing tears, and homeward.

Get enough attunement to equip the spells you want to use. But it's mostly a stat for casters, so don't put many points on it.

focus your strgth/dex untill you have the min to use your weapon of choise. After that put your points into vigor untill you reach 35 vigor

Hm. Okay. What about, like, ever 2 or 3 points of vigor put another into endurance? gotta have the stamina to roll and attack afterall, yes?

I also saw someone with a ridiculous tank build.

How would you fight someone like that? lol.
Any shield piercing weapon can go through magic shield.
Elemental infusions do chip damage.
Duel charms removes buffs.
One handing a weapon means he has next to no hyperarmor or poise damage, trade hits with him with any ultra and he'll be done in no time.
Parry.
Backstabs.

well I imagine if he's fighting a non tank poise damage isn't an issue whether or not you have it, so basically the key here would be to parry someone like that.

I'm currently practicing parrying various enemies while I read people's advice here. Since I wont be going as a tank, I'll need to know how to dodge and parry and back stab in PvE perfectly.
Shields are good, there is a reason the black knight shield is part of the meta. Just don't expect to facetank everything and anything, like everything else, you need to learn what each shield has to offer.

Of course. Part of the skill in playing DS series is using your eyes, and paying attention to anything you're given, be it environment, skill, or equipment.

you can reactionparry that or just get a backstabbbbbb
Hah. Oh yeah, while I have this thread going, to avoid creating another one, can someone explain the poise mechanic? I see a poise stat listed, but no poise damage stat for my weapon.

It's only active while attacking, and affects your attack animations being interrupted. Don't bother taking it into account when choosing armor and rings, if you want to poise through attacks and win trades then you should be using a weapon with the Perseverance weapon art.

Of course, none of them are DEX weapons.

Poise is only active...while attacking? wtf? It affects being interrupted? That's a really dramatic change. Whatever then, lol.

The other question is parrying...I'm spending so much effort trying to learn how to parry, but not only are the parry windows different for each weapon, but they're different for each ATTACK. What the heck? I mean is it even worth practicing, or is it better to just roll and get behind the enemy, etc?

Learning to parry is probably the most frustrating aspect of DSIII for me right now.
