DARK SOULS™ III
Dex/Katana/Scythe Build
Hey, how better to build a character, using katana, scythe or other weapons on dexterity
40/40. 60? I am casual in Souls series, i need be a player...
I just need help, how to develop my character. What statistics first and which must do 40.

Not gonna look like anything but a scrub even further if that's what you decide to stick with.

Get your Dex up to 40 for starters, yeah.
So play alone, make mistakes, take consequences, do not use builds in net... Then I will become a player ye?
Don't use a scythe, except maybe Friede's, which is pretty late game.

Here's a quick casual guide. Start with the Mercenary class. Get the Uchigatana from the sword master right at the beginning. Infuse with Raw. Bump strength up to 11, and use the Silver Eagle Kite Shield.

Another good dex weapon, that's not a katana, is the rapier you can find very early. It's got the highest critical damage of all weapons (tied with dagger), has S scaling, and works with the Leo ring for massive counter damage.

Next, get your vigor up to 27. Eventually you're going to want to get Dex up to 40. Don't worry about strength, unless you want to use shields, in which case the Black Knight shield requires 18 strength. It's the best for non-tanks. Luck is better for dex builds than any other build, as it increases weapon bleed/freeze, but in the beginning it's best to spend points elsewhere.
Friedes scythe is bad and luck doesn't increase frost buildup.
Corvian scythe is pretty good though.
Rapier is meh. Not very good, not that bad either. Outclassed.

Just start as mercenary and keep the sellswords, they're among the best weapons for pve.
27 vig asap, then some end, then dex to 40.
Endgame build should look like this, 40ish vgr, 30-40 end, 60+ dex. Forgot up to which point the sharp sellswords scale well, could be 70 or so.
Just get a grass crest shield on your back for the faster stamina regen.
Optional: sharp dagger and maybe a better parrying tool than the grass crest shield.
Vit in case that you want to use more/heavier gear, but tbh you don't need any more than base.
I want to play with Katana, i hate typical swords.
But... i need learn how to play dark souls, i do not want to be casual forever.

But straight swords are objectively superior, hyper-weeb. I'm a filthy weeb (LOOK AT FUTO'S DOYA-GAO, IS THAT THE FACE OF A CASUL WESTERNER?) and I recognize the superiority of western armor, the Lothric Knight Sword and the Astora Greatsword.

Besides, katana are "typical swords" in "grorious nippon." Ever think of that?

What's your point?

Besides, they're writing bs on their page, katanas aren't the worldwide sharpest swords...

That page was just the 1st one I found to show how there's different styles of swords, even in the east. The katana isn't a "typical" eastern sword, and wasn't really used except for duels, anyways (Side note: Tried to answer earlier, but Steam logged me out for no reason)

I know that there's different swords, that's obvious. But there's a ton of "typical swords", there isn't a fixed "typical sword". If you were in Japan, Katanas and co. would be typical swords. If you were in Europe, arming swords (which I bet most people will call "longswords" despite them being fundamentally different), maybe rapiers would be common. As a native aamerican, you'd be used to tomahawks.
The "typical sword" changes depending on the historical period and region. There's no universal definition. Period.

Yeah, Katanas are no combat weapons. They're actually pretty ehhh and highly, HIGHLY overrated weapons, yeah they cut well until they hit any kind of armor, then they're ♥♥♥♥♥♥, the blade in particular. You can't block/deflect properly since that damages the blade. They're impractical, bows or spears or the like are much better. Then guns came, making anything else obsolete. They're ceremonical weapons, just like their crafting.

I will give you that there's more than one "typical sword" if you define it like that, but I usually take "typical" to mean "most widely used" or "average". Hooray for miscommunications
First START BY PLAYING THE ACTUAL GAME before posting here, you never played it judging by your hour count. Maaaayyyybe just maybe you should start with this.

As said before Sellsword winblades are like, you know, one of the best weapon in the game, for PVE, and super strong in PVP if you can deal with the short range.

Good DEX weapon is the Sharp infused Murakamo (R1, weapon art combo with DMB is close to one shot), has range, hyper armor, but can be parried. Sharp Astora's greatsword does wonders too and cannot be parried when 2 handed (but the weapon art, and you can't combo it), looks great, just a great weapon that fits litterally on ANY build.

For katanas in vanilla there is the chaos blade which is pretty good, but for earlier gameplay the uchi will be just fine if infused with sharp. Later you can make the ultimate weaboo katana with the soul of a DLC boss, this ♥♥♥♥ is good.

Level up DEX to 60 later, 40 is kinda low, at 40 you may as well go quality build.

Really if you do PVE only use whatever the ♥♥♥♥ you want, PVE isn't a challenge in any way aside from bosses and a few moments (mostly in DLCs though), so use whatever you end up liking. In PVE moveset doesn't matter, damage not so much, range kinda.
For PVP you will also need 30 faith to buff your buffable weapons, and here you're a bit more restricted.

For Scythes "PVPSkillz" made a video on them, I suggest you watch it. But they kinda suck in PVP.

Sharp infused weapons scale well up to 80 dex. Go for around 75 - 80 dex.
