What happens if you complete Ringed City and then start Ashes of Ariandel?
A quick question, sorry if it was answered before, however I did not manage to find a clear answer on this.
I have been thinking about buying Ringed City, but I am not very interested in AoA; if, at some point in time, I decide to complete AoA as well, will the story line be altered significantly, considering the fact that I have already killed Gael? He seems important to the story of AoA, but I don't know for sure.
Any feedback is appreciated.

The storyline doesn't change, but Gael will not be at the Cleansing Chapel to invite you into the Painted World, he'll instead leave the painting fragment on the altar next to the bonfire for you to interact with.

Gael will also not be summonable for one of the fights in AoA.

Story is still the same. You can't summon him for one of the bosses. And that's it i think.

You can always go to the next cycle and finish first Ashes of Ariandel and then Ringed City.

he-who-shall-not-be-named only serves as the starting point to AoA, and doesn't really serve as part of the story in it. If you kill him then I'm pretty sure the scrap of the painting he gives you just appears as an item in Cleansing Chapel (untested, cuz im lazy). So either risk it, or go in and light the first bonfire. You can then warp out and be on your merry way, and complete AoA whenever you feel like it. Personally, the final boss in AoA is a really fun fight ;)
