Ballista in Smouldering Lake acting weird

So, I'm in the smouldering lake, and the Ballista is shooting "at me". Problem is, it's not actually shooting at me, but rather just shooting in the same spot at the base of the tree nearest the demon ruins bonfire. I've fully explored the area, killed the boss, and disabled it earlier, so why is it still on, if not actively hostile?

Sounds like you found a glitch. Have you tried turning it off again (if it's actually 'on')?
