Question about Parry and animations
Does anyone knwo why it seems the shields that have the same animation as small leather shield work "better" than say grass shield or any other shields with that animation??

I even like it better than caestus because it seems it is too fast. I miss more with caestus. However the animation is faster than any others. You woudl think it would be better?:steammocking:

Small leather shield is a small shield with the same parry animation/frames as the buckler and target shield. Those three have the most parry frames of all tools. Things like medium shield (grass crest shield) have the least, hence why they're the hardest to time. Caestus and claws parry frames start early compaired to other tools besides the first 3 shields I mentioned.

You can see the parry frames for each tool if you scroll down slightly on this wiki page:

Parry frames differ per tool, despite similar animations.

yeah i know, what i am asking is why does the one which has a longer time seem to work better?

most say the caesus works best

They say that since it ties with the earliest start up frames with the buckler. However, the buckler is a lot more punishable since the entire parry animation lasts a lot longer than the caestus. Caestus is also good since it can do a basic R1 which can be useful when paired with slow weapons.

People forget that things like the Painting Curved Sword and the Sellsword Twinblades can parry as well; I find those parry animations harder to use.

If they're in the offhand, yeah. It really throws people off too

keep in mind that since the nerf to caestus and claw parries, you take a counterhit on a partial parry, if I'm not mistaken.

I can confirm that you do.

Here's a spreadsheet that has every bit of info you need about parrying and hyperarmor frames.

Thanks guys. I thought the lothric knight shield was as good as the smaller shields with the same animation, but it's not so. It's time to get an iron round shield.
