Purple Invaders are there to either kill the host or a certain amount of any kind of phantom. Purple summons are there to either kill mobs and invaders or backstab the host and his phantoms.

The fact that he wants to hide the colour of his summon leads me to believe it's the latter.

they're the kinder eggs of dark souls, yeah. It's a shame that they cannot participate in bossfights though. It kinda makes their existance pointless because you KNOW that they're just lurking for the kill during an unexpected moment

Seeing this thread I decided to put a mad sign down at Undead Village. So far I've mostly helped hosts get to the boss fog, sometimes I helped kill an invader. And only once have I killed a host. At first he was friendly, besides when he shot me with an arrow. However he decided to try and backstab me, quite literally that is. That was after trying to get me to open a door phantoms can't open.
