Greirat dead after doing everything right?

Patches had the Catarina armour set and i told him where Greirat was, isn't he supposed to save him? After beating Sulyvahn he's dead.

He dies after the third one. The standard way to get Greirat to return is to beat a boss. But he dies if you enter the Dungeon before he returns from Irithyll.

There's a bunch corner cases where it still fails despite doing things seemingly right (especially already having the onion armor in your inventory).

It's not a big deal. You can go find his ashes in the building where all the lobsters are, just before the kitchen where you talk to Sigward. Give his ashes to the old lady at Firelink and she will sell you all his items.

You will miss out on his last batch of items though.

greirat dies at the end. but you can give his ashes so you can keep buying his stuff

If Greirat died when he's invading Pontiff Town, you did something wrong. He's forced to die later, but if he dies before Archives something went wrong.

The safest way is to have Siegward escaping his well confines and talk to him in Pontiff Town. You probably should be doing this anyway because it nets you a Slab later on.
