To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Dark Souls. The lore is extremely cryptic, and without a solid grasp of the world around you most of the lore will go over a typical player’s head. There’s also Dark Soul's nihilistic outlook on humanity and how people try to maintain some type of purpose even though they usually get a dark outcome. Which is deftly woven into the games- the lore draws heavily from Vaati Vidya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just sad- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Dark Souls truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the sadness of Siegmeyer's questline, which itself is a metaphor for how even though we can prolong the invetiable, it is useless to. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Hidetaka Miyazaki's genius wit unfolds itself on their television/computer screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂

And yes, by the way, I DO have a Soul of Cinder tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

To this day i find DS1 to be a work of genius. Even ignoring the gameplay entirely to focus on the world lore, its an amazing story. The first time you find yourself with enough lore knowledge to put all the peices together, the game itself becomes even more amazing. Its something that even DS2 -3 didnt manage to capture in the same way.

DS1 will always be a Master Piece.

I do find ds1 to have good lore. Although. I wish their were some tweaks to the gameplay since the rolling feels awlward. Even the fast rolling. Still though an overall good game.

Story-wise, I completely agree with you. Although, I have some reserves regarding the gameplay.

The series' lore truly is immersive and captivating but I personally am more drawn to it's combat mechanics and gameplay features. Can not enjoy any other game, thanks Miyazaki.

I prefer gameplay over story too. I am more of an action gamer, one that likes to ACT on the game, not INTERACT with it. Gameplay is the scale I use to separate good games from bad games.
