Hosts already have the level advantage (invades upwards 20 levels above that which it invades down) -- for example SL35 has a range of 31.5 - 58.5.
Hosts have 30% extra HP, ignoring that it could be more because they get an average of 10 free levels (which is a lot at low levels).
Phantoms and Blues may have 7+10 Estus, and there is multiply of them, while the Host has double the Estus of an invader (assuming not a twink).
Host may summon or re-summon infinitely, and auto-summon Blues infinitely.
2v1 can stunlock a player to death with the right weapons and timing. 4v1 can stunlock a player to death by just looking at them. Impossible to dodge roll 4 slightly different timed running R1s, so good lucky playing it carefully if you get too close and they're even slightly organised.
Lag benefits gankers far more than it does invaders. Good luck parrying, they can still spam R1 and now can kill you even when you dodge them or are 5 metres out of range.
Dark Souls 3 PvP is more than unbalanced.
EDIT :: Saying all this... it's still not hard to win if you're good, but for those that aren't great PvPers, going against someone else that isn't a good PvPer can be extremely troublesome, and gankers are an absolute impossibility. The imbalance is too much.
So kill them before they gank you.
Get a drop attack
Lead them into mobs
Ranged Attacks
Traps
Hide Behind Corners
Hope other invaders come along
Draw them out
Circle Around behind them
Abuse the environment. Cliffs, Elevators, Sludge.
Use Duel Charms
Invade at areas far ahead of bosses so they can't just easily run to the boss fight
Use a massive swinging weapon like Yhorm's
Block them in doorways with Greatshields.
Many options.
Your argument relies on the basis that the invader is much better and much smarter than the Host - which I agree with to an extent - but there are limits. I shouldn't have to have a 95% win rate in PvP just to stand a chance against a gank squad.
You should be spawned ahead of the swarm though, and be able to position yourself ahead of them. Do one of these, and when they recover, roll spam away to the next spot. Also, just invade in a really cancerous area if you want easy wins. First part of AoA. The closest boss is miles away, and there are 50 dogs, 2 mini bosses, trees, javelins, Roots, Bridges, and all that stuff between them, and the boss. Take advantage of that. Don't invade in a tiny spot like the Keep Perimeter where they can just make a break for the boss room. Give yourself some space. Choose an area that you like to invade in. You pick the area, not them.
Again, gank squads aren't progressing, they're ganking. Enemies are dead, they don't care about proceeding to where you are. If they're aggressive enough there is no rolling away, they'll be at your tail the entire time.
Onion OP isn't looking for gank spanking advice, he was talking about invasion inblance. But as you have this problem licked and we are just 'not thinking outside the box' and just 'wanting our tongue on a silver platter' lets put your gimmicks to the test, if your up for it???
Tomorrow if your down I'll summon you in as a red and you can fight me and three of my buddies (all 1.5k hour+) with way of the blue on and me re-summoning everyone you kill, I'll record it for prsoperity, we can do it 5 times maybe more to give you a fair run..
Are you up for it ?
If they're just chilling out, either Tab out and play Tetris or something, or BC. And don't invade in Crucifixion Woods, unless you're being forced to as a Watchdog. If it's literally just a group of 3 or 4 people progressing through the level though, just do some of the stuff I listed to mess them up.
I hear what your saying but there's an awful lot of players that consider anything but a solo host a gank squad. There was another thread today about a Blue turning up being cause to black crystal <lol>. So I think there's a fair body of players that think a gank is anything other than just the host.
I dont think its useful presenting worst case scenarios either. especially as there mostly stated as if every invasion is like that. I am very sure anyone who invades has had bullcrap scenarios as you describe. But what I laid out is at least in my experience more typical.
Personally I take things as I find them. I don't expect to win every engagement and expect a certain percentage to be impossible to win. At the end of the day where not meant to win every time.
Its also worth thinking on why hosts get so many advantages. Invaders by design are meant to be an additional exciting threat. But there not meant to constantly kill hosts and block progress. Further if things where 'fair' ie 1v1 then they'd be massively imbalanced against hosts. The invader has hundreds or thousands of hours of playtime the host often 30 minutes (of pvp) across their playthrough. Lots of invader like to conveniently forget this to stroke their ego. The numbers balance out the skill gap.
Of course when it comes to proper gank squads and by that people not playing the level and just farming invaders the system fails. But thats down to those players. For your typically host who one and dones the game with their friend its probably balanced because even with the advantages they die more often than not.
Well no, because I just listed literally all my tactics. so it most likely wouldn't go too well. And I have work tomorrow anyway. Sounds fun though. :P
But still, invasions are supposed to be imbalanced. No denying that. Are they a little harsh sometimes? Sure. Do I wish some things were changed? Of course, but I still think it's fine as they are. Both Invaders and Hosts whine and complain about the other, so if any changes were made, one side would most likely riot.
This sh!t just got real...
LMAO! what hapened to thinking outside the box mate? you'd get crushed 5 times out of 5 and you know it.
Maybe. I listed literally everything, so you would know what to plan for. So now the box has expanded so large that I can't think outside it. The advantage comes from the squad not knowing what the invader is doing. You guys would literally just be on alert, full estus, Moss, Firebombs, have all the ♥♥♥♥ ready, and camp at a bonfire. No fun in that. You can kill a gank squad going through a level, but one just camping at a bonfire is immune to your ♥♥♥♥.
If there's a gank squad sitting at a bonfire or in a small room, just BC out. No point in dealing with it, and don't complain about it. They're just wasting their time, so there's no point in wasting yours.
Invading isn't about winning every matchup, and killing the same guys over and over again. It's about finding new people and killing them. The instant I fought you guys once, you'd know all my ♥♥♥♥, so there wouldn't even be a point. It's like knowing what cards your opponent has in poker, it ruins it.
And Yeah, I most likely would get spanked.
you think people havent heard of such revolutionary tactics like 'plunge attacks' before? stop making excuses, you wimp.
Oh that's ok just let me know when you can make it and I'll arrange it, then you can show us how to 'think outside the box' Mr 300hrs.
K, my hours are irrelevant. And people say "Plunging attacks" because it's what works. Expecting to be able to actually fight a gank squad is ridiculous, so do stuff out of the norm.
