Fromsoft Npc fights: is it possible to make an npc that isn't cheating when fighting players
Annimation cancelling, input reading etc. Maybe Fromsoft should hire a programmer that can make npc fights interesting without the AI cheating all the time. Only tactics with this garbage is parry or stun these npc's to death. Shouldn't be to hard for a mildly talented developer.

I forgot to mention that Fromsoftware is so cheap, they don't even let the npcs play by your own rules, like limitted spell usage, or bullets like in BB. Wouldn't it be a fair strategy to outdodge an npc till he runs out of ammo so you get a better chance? Shouldn't you get rewarded with an easier fight duo to you being patient and outsmarting the enemy? Nope! You must kill the npc with unlimmitted ammo or you are a sissy!

I've fought Hawkwood like 8btimes in the last 2 days and never saw him or any other enemy doing animation cancels. You just punish his missed attacks like in PvP and much like in PvP you get parried I'd yoy spam or attack while he is blocking so I don't see what the problem is
Well, I told you my observation.

At least his friend is easy.

No, I attack him, he takes damage, I attack again, he parries. I'm not stupid, you know.

In PvP 2 handed dagger R1 doesn't seem to stagger for 2 hits as people roll after the first one. So if it was 2 handed that might be why you got parried as there is no lag in pve so sounds legit to me. If you were 1 handing the dagger then unless you can share a video explaining it then I find it hard to believe.

(Saw another post me thinking a dagger. If not a dagger let me know what weapon and R1 or R2 as again, I think it's likely it was a case of PvP rules without lag
oh so 2 handed dagger doesn't combo, I didn't know that
Another thread by you?
Again, all I see is

Don't forget the infinite fp that pyromancer mcdonnel has in ashes of ariandel, although I've seen players with infinite fp too lul
Don't you think that him with limited FP would mean that people can just make him waste it and then easy kill him?
There is reason why in Souls games NPC's have unlimited arrows and spells, y'know.
Two words: exploitation and AI.

Fighting NPC is like fighting a miniboss.
Wanna fight Lorian with limited number of teleportations?
Wanna fight Friede with limited weapon art uses?
Wanna fight Gael with limited number of bolts?
Same reason why you don't want to fight wizard NPC with limited number of spells.

All of the npcs in ds3 are quite awfull. Ai wise, Maldrom in ds2 had a better bag of tricks with him. Or the forlorn. Not to mention that one assasin wich used to hide in crate form and backstabbed you as soon as you opened the chest nearby . Nothing like that made it to ds3
No, just no, Maldron was truely a ♥♥♥♥ tier npc, worse than anything in Ds 3. He could cancel almost every animation into anything he wanted... I've seen him cancel attacks into rolls, roll out of a stunlock when he shouldn't, cancel the stagger animation after beeing parried and roll out before I could actually riposte etc... Ds 2s npcs were really cheating for the most part, beeing it animation cancelling, walking normal in water that should impede their movement, tanking ugs hits in jester robes, beeing able to roll after doing 6 ugs attacks...

Nah. But it's still ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game design. Instead of giving him a decent AI and making him a worthwhile opponent you just make him do stuff the player can't and buff his stats. That's what they did with basically every npc in Dark Souls 2, beeing it Maldron, Jester Thomas, Fencer Sharon, the guy before Chariot bossfight etc... It's also there in Ds 1 and 3, specially in ng+ cycles but it's most noticable in 2...

Don't mix up bosses with npcs that are supposed to simulate human encounters...making someone waste their spell usage is a viable method to fight spammers and bad players, so I don't see why npcs get a free pass, they should get a better AI instead of cheats.
