Butcher Knife have axe moveset. Black knight greatsword is... a greatsword.

Butcher's Knife has good range, great Strength Scaling, a Weapon Art that boosts its damage temporarily, and minor Hyper Armour with high Poise.

Black Knight Greatsword has good damage, it weighs a lot, has plenty of Hyper Armour even when low on Poise, good Strength Scaling... the Weapon Art is pretty useless.

Butcher's Knife is faster, but obviously has less range and damage. It's very good at roll catching however.

May i ask what hyper armour is? (also thanks for this ;3)

Hyper Armour is a short phase where you can't be interrupted during an attack.

Typically the bigger and heavier a weapon is, the more hyper armour you get (to counter-balance the slower speed of its swings).

Poise (a value every armour piece has) affects Hyper Armour. The more Poise you have, the more Poise Damage (a hidden value every weapon has) you can sustain before being interrupted during Hyper Armour frames.

In short, it lets you hit without being staggered.

when you both you and opponent attack at same time , you will tank through their attack without staggering(while still taking damage i think)

Butcher knife WA also makes its attacks restore a significant amount of hps (esp R2). It's sometimes good to have on hand just for this.

thanks guys! i did not expect such helpful responses so fast! I think im gonna go for the greatsword. Seems like a power weapon (i think it will fit my style more)

if it wont be a hassle for you guys, which of the two do you guys prefer? (just for some extra input ;3)

I'd use them both depending on what you're facing. Neither is a bad weapon. BK if you can only upgrade one.

Black Knight Greatsword. It's heavy, but it packs a punch. However, the BKGS is easily beatable by someone who knows how to use the Butcher's Knife... and vice versa.
