Seriously, spam light attack and roll away. Spam light attack, then roll away. Congratulations, he's dead.
Try not to forget the terror and uncertainty of inexperience. In DS1 black knights are a joke once you realize you can backstab them continuously just by sidestepping. But before you learn that and gain confidence, it's the hesitation that lets them plaster you to the wall with horrifying ease.
As someone who started deprived first time through, the range advantage the Uchi provides against the club is a daunting obstacle. The fact that the Uchi provides a parry only adds to the paranoia you feel when starting out.
Then you learn jumping attacks can't be parried, but that takes time or luck.
Simply hitting things until they die does in fact work well, but it doesn't quite work the same way for new players who don't yet know how to exploit the mechanics quite so efficiently.
At least I started DS1 like this. I had a weapon, and hit everything until they died, and if there was a hit coming my way, I dodged. You don't have to know more to beat the game. Black knights I didn't kill at first, of course, because I didn't have to! It's the same with sword master: he doesn't even have to kill him.
EDIT: If he wants to kill him it most likely means he read a guide, which has a psychological effect which makes him less able to learn mechanics, which will definetly make the game harder for him.
Or you can cheese him by making him fall off.
You dont really need to kill him early unless you want his weapon.
Every single thread there's some jerk who's too amazing for the rest of us. How about some constructive advice instead?
