Opinions of axes/axe weapon class?
Any opinions on the overall grade of the axe class? And any recommendations for good ones, or favorites?

Ive heard many people say the axe class is terrible, hard to say if that still rings true after the many patches since launch. They are much stronger than longswords so at first it seemed like they were actually very decent weapons. But I began to notice that they seem fast, but in reality are a bit slow. When compared back to back with greatswords, it appears that greatswords are faster and only weigh a little more than most axes. Considering this, it would make sense why people think the weapon class gets overshadowed by the rest of them, but I wanted to see if things have changed for axes in recent updates.

Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

I think they're pretty good. I'm very fond of the Butcher Knife and the Man Serpent Hatchet; In 1v1s, I can handle almost anything with any of those two weapons.

They're great, my very first character used Eleonora at end-game because it looks nice, has good damage, and the WA is great for taunting people. Thrall Axe is also great for STR builds to use Quickstep, and as above, the Butcher's Knife has insane range for its speed and moveset.

Greataxes are amazing in that even if you whiff, the shockwaves can still stagger enemies/players. Compare that with Yhorm's/Great Machete which has a very long range, you'll see why many people still use them.

axes are slightly slower, slightly stronger version of straight swords. I like them.

not as broken as SS

Huh, Ive heard a lot of people were very dissapointed in Eleonora, mainly though because it takes scales instead of twinkling titanite. That weapon art is very alluring though, seems like it would be very useful. I used the greataxe and earth seeker on other characters of mine and found them to be extremely good, higher damage than great hammers, and just about highest in the game aside from the stupid OP ones.

I know greataxes are great, but the smaller ones seemed to be very unpopular, never seen anyone online with one equipped, only see the greataxes every now and then. Makes me think they arent good for that reason.

They're cute as weapons but i just cant find any that i would like fashion-wise.

Dragonslayer axe is the closest, but i hate the fact that its a gimmick weapon (must be constatly buffed with lighting to deal decent damage to other players and enemies that use player-like defenses)

I dont like the track and normal moveset of the GA but.... they are good. Axes? I really like those.

The only problem with Eleonora's WA is that it doesn't make the sound when you're a phantom. Its not actually very good, it just adds bleed and saps a little bit of health from attacks but I use it because it can make people panic and defensive when they see the bleed bar.

Great Hammers are better if you know your timing. A fully charged R2/RT does slightly more damage than a backstab and almost always flattens enemies/players when it lands, giving you both extra damage and more breathing room for estus/buffs/whatever and you can change your attacks direction when you attack so you can catch backstab fishers.

All in all, both categories are fantastic. After trying even the normal Great Machete and Vordt's Hammer. I fell in love and never went back to Ultra Greatswords.

they're decent/good, and actually the millwood battle axe was part of the strenght meta at some point due to how good the scaling was and the weapon art usefull, also the dragonslayer axe is very popular due to it's raw damage

I use the Milwood Battleaxe on my strength build. It's pretty effective with most infusions or buffs. Pretty fun weapon too with it's staggering charge. I'd recommend it if you're playing a strength build and just want to screw with people by using the WA creatively.
