How do you dodge this specific attack from Nameless King?

So I've killed him, but i was never able to dodge this specific attack in his first phase. He charges his spear with lightning and slams it on the ground, causing a lightning effect in an AoE. The AoE catches me regardless of the direction I roll or if I try to sprint away while it's charging. It doesn't do too much damage, but I'm almost never able to actually dodge it. How do you do this consistently? he has a similar attack in his second phase that I have no issue with. It's only when he's still on the bird.

I usually put on the carthus blood ring when i face him, it gives me enough i-frames to dodge the AoE aswell when i roll towards him just before it strikes the ground.

This attack has a slight AOE effect that follows. You have to time your roll JUST right, at the very last moment to not get hit by it.
