It's clear that Sulyvahn was targeting Lothric Castle, even 2 of the 3 Outrighter Knights are in the area.
They all were sent to Lothric as act of agression (with goald unknown) and they all were doomed to become insane beasts that attack everything.
Basically: they all were sent on suicide mission by Pontiff for one reason or another. Either as act of intimidation or something more practical (kill you for example and prevent from doing your things, or kill prince Lothric).
In totall there are 5 irithyll knights in lothric: Vordt, Dancer and 3 outrider knights (the name alone suggests their purpose) who are scattered around the land.
Maybe there were more, but Lothric Knights managed to defeat them. Who knows.
wow this Sulyvahn guy sounds like a real prick.
He basically serves Aldritch, so why wouldn't he wanna protect his lord from the Unkindled? But yes, he's a ♥♥♥♥.
And his boss fight is dongs too, especially on 1st playthrough.
He's generally considered to be the first legit hard boss to be encountered by new players. No gimmicks, no cheap tricks, just hard boiled balls.
Now that I've faught him a few dozen times, I wouldn't call him -hard- per se, but he still is a bit of a challenge even for me. Dude's just a ♥♥♥♥. And, he is a bit of a gimmick-y boss. That 'spawn a phantom' nonsense is just mean. xD
I always assumed that Sully wants that whole age of Dark to come along. He found the profaned flame, which has something to do with dark and humanity, was "inspired" by it, and is consumed by it midway through the fight with him. I think he's just another dude with a goal, much like the Unkindled. If the player wills it, we pretty much have the same goal even. We just don't get the option to talk it out and say "hey I totally wanna see that fire fade too mang, lets hang out!". Much better for him to just kill this stupid little hollow that walks up to him holding l1 with his goofy Want Shield.
