Any downside of two-handing a weapon that I just barely don't have enough strength for?
So I just got the Giant Door Shield (requires 45 strength) and my strength stat is 40. If I two hand the Giant Door Shield with my current stat, what will be difference/downside compared to me using it with 45 strength.

It'll mean nothing, because you can't two hand paired weapons.

This.

In other words you still won't meet the needed strength because it's a paired weapon so it's 2 x 1 handed rather than 2 handing.

This means you will use almost all stamina when swinging and blocking and have almost no damage when attacking with them.

Tl Dr , you cannot use them with 40 strength.

However, if you equip the knight ring, you will gain 5 strength and be able to use the doors fully

Thank you very much for your helpful reply.

I'm still kind of confused though. So you're saying that because I can't two hand the shields, it would be as if I was one-handing them so it takes a lot of stamina and does much less damage?

I've never used a paired weapon so I wouldn't know.

Yes, it will not be like 2 handing a normal weapon.

If you don't have 45 str then you can't use the doors, simply.

But if you wear the knight ring , its effect is it gives you 5 strength.
So, then you can use them.

I also have 40str and I have to wear the knight ring if I want to use the doors.

For paired wepaons, it's two weapons, so it's one weapon in each hand. This means your 1 handing 2 weapons. So it is impossible to 2 hand them. Sadly this means you don't get the usually strength bonus from 2 handing .

What I don't understand is that you said it's not possible to use them without 45 strength however I can use them. It just says "Unable to use this item effectively with present attributes" but it still lets me use them.

You can use then but you will have less attack power and blocking capabilities than if you used a dagger to attack and block.

Give it a go with 40 str and you will see.

Like a gun without a bullet. It's useable but it's not going to be any good at its job.

So when i say unusable i mean for its purpose. As i say, try it with and without the knight ring and see the damage and stamina consumption difference

Okay I understand now. Thank you
