How do NPC phantoms work?

So I summon the dude, kick ass, farm armor, then get to a boss fight and die within 30 seconds. Now the summon point is gone. Is there any way to get a phantom back?

Did you ember? You need to be embered in order to summon phantoms

you summon them beside boss gates. You fight the boss with them, you dont treck through the game with npc summons.

yes everytime you defeat a boss they will disappear until the next area as long as you are embered you can summon them.

I haven't beaten the boss for this area, though the summon is still gone. I have been embered though it's still not there. This is Lion Knight Albert.

if your phantom dies they go on a cool down, was added last patch.

the phantom cd is for player phantoms so you cant just chain summon them while invaded.

NPC summons should come back every time if you fail the boss though so thats odd.

There's definitely a cooldown now, like 10 or 15 minutes.

Did you by chance attack the lady that gives you the banner?
If you do this, he will be gone forever.

No, I didn't. There is a cooldown if you get killed. I was able to summon it again after a few minutes.
