My impression is that the chain is mainly for lower level and caster builds, as it frees up utility slots that they can better use for damage. A kitted melee build with enough Vit for poise and 40 Vig probably won't gain much from a few extra points in Str/Dex.
My current set up is:
Havel's +3
Favor +3
Cloranthy +3
And the one that I change
I usually wear the one wich makes you look human, sometimes steel protection +3
But I guess I will change Havel for the chain and find a nice fashion souls wich it's under the 70% mark
In PVP, I think 15% physical absorption on a high poise build that trades a lot is pretty significant. I also like that it makes my estus go further in PvE.
At SL 100, I'm running 35 VIG, 40 VIT, and only 26 END, so the extra stats definitely seem to be worth 3% reduced absorption. I wasn't sure if SL120 builds would benefit as much, but I figured stats could probably be juggled a bit to open up some new options / playstyles with the ring equipped.
It's not comically useless like the base version, but 4 or 5% (multiplicative) probably still isn't worth a ring slot.
Yeah, that's what I meant by "lower level" (your first post said 120, and I'm not sure how much use it is there for pure melee).
Just curious. How much poise are you stacking, and what's your primary weapon?
Actually Steel Protection +3 is increases physical absortions by 17%
That can make a difference in PvP as can do the little healing from a blessed off-hand
120: Favor+3, Cloranthy +3, Life +3, Leo Ring for my spear.
It would be really good to know if it is xD !! I feel pretty damn tanky with the thing equipped, but maybe I'm giving the ring too much credit for that.
Silvercat Ring (area dependant)
Lloyd's Sword Ring
Chloranthy Ring
Sometimes on my heavier builds ::
Ring of Favour
Havel's Ring
Other common ones ::
Leo Ring
Hornet Ring
Spell Boosters
I never use Prisoner's Chain on any build ever, or Stoneplate / Steel Protection Rings.
Unless they've made major changes lately, it does not do that when you get hit by another player (like I said, the base version used to be 1 or 2% bonus, despite being 10% in PvE, and each upgrade level only gave you an extra 1%).
