I too was summoned into the Spear of the Church zone without the covenant. I was at the time trying to be a white phantom in the sun bro covenant and was launched into the boss fight unawares

I accidentally dropped a red sign at the streets bonfire and was instantly summoned as a Spear. Seems we've been volunteered.

Wow. First i thought this was just a generic forum rumor, but now it happened too myself too!
I think it happens if there re not enough people with the covenant as players doing the fight, right?
Oh, and gg Bill Brasky, for a DUGS user you actually had skill in PvP.

Happened to me last night outside of Midir boss room. I put my Sunbro sign down, and saw the message I was being summoned. Then I read it closer, and it said I was being summoned as spear of the church lol. I had no idea wtf was going on.

This is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

When this is true there is no need to kill Midir to earn the Covenant Item.

More like conscripted lol.

Also there is a point to get the covenant item if you want to be summoned on a more regular basis. It's quite random/rare to have it just happen on it's own. Just means there are more people doing the church fight than there are people that managed to beat Midir haha.

How did you come to that conclusion?
Summoning random players (if it's actually intended that way) is most likely just an "emergency" plan.

Wearing the convenant item will give you a lot higher chances to get summoned.

Well, depends on your matchmakign region and when you play. I'm from Europe, early hours here, so i guess not many Spears running around, so that could be the case. So From decided: "Hey it worked perfect with the mirror knight, let's redo this with the Spears of the Church covenant!"

Also, there is really no need to fight midir the Waytomuchhealthhaving, the covenant rewards you with nothing of use.

I mean "there is NO need to kill him" when u have a chance to be summoned without the covenant item.

And for that people who don't wan't this fight as a boss don't have the time to use the BSP when there are more then 3 people.

Still, it's highly unlikely you get summoned without the cov. item.
Unless you want to wait a whole day to get summoned once.
There is no need to kill the boss anyway, because you can just farm the items via pve.

Well if you don't want to fight, just let them kill you, no big deal.
People who enter the fight with 3+ people most likely just wanna get this boss done anyway or gank the hell out of another player.

You loose maybe 30s of your time and chances are it'll never happen again.

I don't have a problem with this but i can't hardly understand why this is happening.

But maybe there are other people who hate this or else.

Chances are very low? *Drops a summon sign at the streets of the ringed city bonfire and gets summoned within 30 seconds*
Dude, i know of statistics, and that a single occasion to myself means nothing, but getting summoned three times (four if you count a connection error), it makes me worry.

Yep happened to me myself.
In 70hrs in the DLC with pretty much permantly having a white sign down, it happened exactly 3 times.

If you know statistics, please show them (link). I'm interested to learn more about it.

Still it'll be faster to just farm cov. items via pve or with the covenant.

urm, this wasn't what i mean with "i know statistic". I meant that i know about the way chance and randomness work in mathemathical statistics, that one rare event doesn't affects the chance of an other, etc. I usually say this because there are way to much whiners out here which think that the logical conclusion of something rare happening to them means it happens way to often and is OP.

But regarding proof, there ar emultiple threads covering this theme made within the last few hours, brb with some links:

And here one about the fact that you can get summoned without the covenant just by putting your summon sign down: http://steamcommunity.com/app/374320/discussions/0/133261124640583926/

Well, i thought you knew of someone who actually tested it.

I know of these threads, they just appear all the time when something happens people don't understand or don't know about. Which makes this seem like an actual issue, which it isn't (probably)

That's why I'd like to see if someone actually tested it.
All i got is personal experience, which tells me: "Get the covenant, if you want to be summoned".

2nd option would be, farm cov. items via pve.

3rd option, hoping to get summoned when randomly putting my sign down.

I personally just can't see a problem here, that's my whole point.
If people get constantly summoned without the convenant, then yes i agree, there is a problem. But as far as I know that's not happening.

If I'm wrong, well that's ok too ;)
