I tried to trade a black firebomb for the Titanite chunk. They told me no. This was my first try, btw. I just found them.

Either it isn't the first time or you must be playing DS1 or DS2.

There's also a bug that can happen if you give them an item when you're at the top of the roof instead of inside the roof which sometimes make items despawn.

There's also another bug... if you have the bombs equipped in a quickslot you won't be able to drop even 1 bomb.

Just un-equip from quickslot and then you should be able to drop.

I had a similar issue dropping the black firebomb, but I was only dropping 1 at a time. I was able to get the titanite chunk after moving closer to the center of the nest (I was on the perimeter when it wasn't working.)
