I feel like it's not quite as intuitive as you would like. With plenty of variation.

Lightning is good against armor and dragons.

I'm not sure what frost is good for. I remember it being good for like one boss.

Poison no idea. Never messed with the. Bleed seems random what it works on.

Fire isn't good against flesh. Fire is good against enemies with low fire resistance. Same with lightning etc.

While there is some logic to is, looking up individual enemies/bosses for this info is a better idea. You could be surprised what enemy/boss is resistand or even immune to.

There are only a few enemies immune to poison/bleed/froms. One boss I can think of is optional from second DLC.

Also if you use elemental damage on weapons, keep in mind, that defense has 2 values: flat reduction and % reduction. This way splitting damage (with weapons you have physical AND elemental) does way less damage than AR indicates. So keep that in mind when trying out weapons.

what about magic and dark?

Dark deals very high stamina damage, magic is just bland I believe. Dark can be used very efficiently in PvE to guard break big dudes with shields.

Fire is what you want available for you to use, quite a lot of enemies react in ways to fire damage that will simplify your playthrough. It will not deal the damage it should compared to pure physical damage as explained above ( split-damage sucks, basically ), but the secondary effect on the enemy will be worth it.

So 'best elemental damage in DS3, allround': Fire

'best elemental damage against boss X': check wiki for weakness

Best elements are fire and dark. Mostly fire, then you have dark using the same stats for anything that resists fire.

As for damage per cast, probably a sunlight spear at pointblank has the highest.

fire is fairly effective against non-armored foes. lightning works well against dragons. magic seems to generally work, not sure which specific enemies are "weak" against magic. dark works well against "holy" things. sometimes. bleed works against pretty much anything with flesh, bone or armor-based entities will not bleed as easily, if at all. poison is pretty much useless. frost works against random things, sometimes it's fleshy enemies, sometimes it's heavily armored enemies (including that one boss who surely is "heavily armored"), but frost itself doesn't have that great of an effect in pve anyway.

dark is good against other players, especially at low levels. They are unlikely to have much dark resist.

Frost is amazing against some bosses like the Princes and the last of the 2º DLC.

It's like you just straight ignored what the poster above you said.

Magic seems to be effective in general. Nothing seemed notably weak to it. Nothing seemed notably strong to it. (Your experience may vary.)
