Repeating Crossbow vs Avelyn

Which one is better? According to the wiki, the repeating crossbow has higher per-bolt damage than the Avelyn, but when using the rapid fire the damage drops massively. For general PvE and PvP, which is better?

Yes but 10 bolts from it damages the same as 1 bolt from a normal crossbow.

really? i use it a lot, the multi-hit comes in handy often against chuggers and mages.

Have you tried the avelyn? It's better for this.

The WA can deal up to twice the damage a normal shoot does. Compared to the avelyn that shoots 3 normal arrows... So use up 10 ammunition to a maximum of twice the damage, or 3 to deal trice the damage.

Of course, the avelyn has to shoot 3 bolts every time, no single-shot.

You'd rarely want to single shot the avelyn unless they up'd the damage, but this might be a better option than the shoulder charge WA which is pretty meh. I guess it tacs on a few fun points....

I was mainly thinking of using is as an off-hand to catch enemies that are on low health, out of range of my sword and not worth wasting FP on from pyromancies. I know I could use a light crossbow or something but that is so boring.
