Firelink shrine from DS1
In case you missed it (I did in my first run), the area you fight the demon prince is actually the firelink shrine from DS1. It was quite mindblowing when I noticed it.

I wondered if it was the same place, but isn't it a bit too big? There's not that much space between the structure where frampt stays and the cliff near the bonfire.

you pick up the banner from the ruins of old firelink shrine. And I think we can safely say that everything is piled up in dreg heap. So no wonder the area got bigger.

Yes exactly. That's probably why the area seems bigger than DS1.
