What happens if I kill the old man in the floor before the final boss of Ringed city dlc? And what if not and he goes where he tries to go?

Probably nothing. Apparently if you watch him continue crawling he eventually reaches Filianore before dying on his own.

It's the other way around. He dies before reaching Filianore. Best pay off after spending almost 10 minutes watches him crawling.

Nothing, he just dies anyway before reaching the bonfire. I was looking at some gear while standing next to him and suddenly he dies and scared me to death.
