Final boss of Ringed City DLC is tedious
Does anyone else think so? I'm talking about Gael, of course. I'm playing on NG at SL110, so I guess I fought the easiest version of him. It would have been a fun fight if he didn't have so much health and was more aggresive, but as it is right now, it is mostly just time consuming after one figures out how to dodge and what openings are safe to get a hit or two in. The hardest part of my winning run (5th try) was the left thumb cramp that kicked in after ten minutes of Gael jumping around like an idiot.

Maybe I did something wrong, but none of the weapons I tried did more than 200 per hit, which didn't even make a visible impact on his health bar. Granted those weapons were an enchanted estoc +10, a Moonlight Greatsword +5 and Great Soul Arrow (Court Catalyst) at 60 int, so if he's massively resistant to magic it would explain the laughable damage.

Did you like the fight? What weapons did you use and how much damage were you doing per swing? I've yet to try the dragon boss, but I've heard he's also a damage sponge, so I'm not anticipating that.

Aside from the mechanics of the fight themselves, I also didn't like that Gael was the final boss. I was expecting something more central to the lore of the series, but instead we got Red Riding Hood on steroids...

I find the Gael here is exactly the opposite of Soul of Cinder.

SoC represents and an amalgamation of souls of the undead champions that linked the fire and people will surely remember those.

Gael? By consuming the Dark Soul, all the hollowed souls that tortured, exiled, forgotten and left to die now resides within him as a vessel, and they are about to unleash all those anger and wrath throughout the ages on the final dance between us the Ashen Ones with the Dark Soul.

Agreed. This legit p*ssed me off, even though the fight itself was cinematic as hell.

I've made a post about this.

But yeah, I have to agree with others talking about they should have added a cutscene or at least a dialogue in the end, but nah...
Again, this has been the case for absolutely every Souls DLC.

This is what Gael is supposed to be. You've already seen the rich, snobby gods, and killed them all. Here's you, a lowly, beaten Hollow.

I don't think people realise that Miyazaki came forward with a statement saying specifically thay the ending would stay the same. Gael is not the final boss in the series, Soul of Cinder is. For what Gael is, if you really think about his lore, he is a fantastic final boss, and really the only person who could have been the final boss. It would be more confusing if we got some random joe god just for the sake of having a more upper-class fight, but Gael on a whole represents why the Souls series is good, and is kind of a representation of the player themself. A hollow who's gone through everything because he was given a quest, simply because of his profession. He's gone to a time where everything has been covered in ash, by you.

We see him, consumed by the Dark Souls, which is now mutating him, but he still believes that his quest is not over, which is why we find him eating the Pygmy Kings. It's quite a horrifying scene really, and shows what an apparantly terrible thing the Dark Soul is. It's like Manus in Dark Souls 1, who was clearly not cohesive when we find him in the chasm.

People expect more "climactic battles", but the "final" boss of Bloodborne was just the son of a god, who we have never heard about until we see him. His lore is really only significant when thinking about what Maria did to conceal the Hamlet. Miyazaki has a strong belief that in video games, the end is not the end. This is a theme of Dark Souls, and is why ee never see DLC "endings". In terms of health, I think it was just fine on NG. It needed to last long enough to make it more cinematic and conclusive to the DLC.

Gael actually has the second to least health in the DLC, and on a side note, you can't really complain about how much any specific weapon does, because you've always needed to change weapons to something better suited to enemies you find, that's why enemies have weaknesses.

I believe the problem to be that we were promised answers to the secrets of the series in the advertising. I think many people - including me - expected a closure to things like...What's with Velka? Whatever happened to Aldia? Etc.

I was kinda expecting someone to say they want Giant Dad piggybacking on Nameless King's back, on top of his dragon as a fight at any rate.

You weren't really promised anything at all from the advertisement. You should never assume what is being advertised towards you outright. Velka might be just a God, you know. People really hyped her up a little too much. We don't see any of the other minor gods, so why Velka? Aldia's story was finished in DS2 and the lore of DS3's Grand Archives. You really shouldn't have expected "answers" in a series that has never given you any, just purely based on blind speculation from characters you saw in a trailer.

I wanted Giant Dad piggybacking on Gwyn with Ornstein and Smough as adds and Kalameet comes sweeping down after you hit 50% health. Then you fight Artorias again.

It is a little bit oddly balanced, but my guess is they wanted to make them on oar with SoC.

Pretty sure in one of the trailers it said something about "unravel the secrets of the past" - oh well.

Afaik Aldia was immortal and the story wasnt finished.

Even then, if we exclude Velka (we found the Purging Monument in this DLC ..like...seriously)...there's still ..umh..Londor? What''s the story of Rosaria? What's with Gertrude?

There's so much more left unanswered and that feels really, really unfair. There will be nothing added after this.

We are in Londor, there is more than enough evidance to support this. The story of Rosaria has already been revealed, that's why people already know so much about it. I don't know why you expected so many answers. It's Dark Souls. If it came out and hammed you everything it would be terrible. It's already showb that the style is a silent show but not tell narrative.

I disagree, the DS series have given enough answers. But as with real history, some parts, the older the more likely, is lost.

Ringed city indeed have lot's of answers to DS1, to DS3 both. Of course not by giving you a cutscene, why would they do that? Do what you have to in EVERY DAMN DS GAME. Read item descriptions, look at your surroundings, watch out for details. Architecture, etimology, etc. For example Lapp means [soiler] patch, so from that you cozuld've guessed that at least he has something to do with Patches.[/spoiler] A fine detail.

EDIT: It's not meant for you, Hatty, even tho I quoted you. It's meant for Silvershadow.

It doenst matter if they didnt promise they wouldnt give all the answers. I expect a game to tell a story, even if hidden behind various things. Every other dark souls DLC does this. This is the only one which doesnt.

…This DLC most certianly told multiple stories, but clearly not the one you wanted.
