Origin of unkindled one?
This is a copy-paste of a comment I wrote for this game theory on this subject. I wanted to see what the world thought of my theory.

MY OUTRAGEOUS, AND VERY LONG WINDED THEORY: A key piece of information people gloss over is the out of order time-continuum. This is the lore behind all the orange messages "left by previous, or future adventurers", and the reason my linch-pin exists in DS3; this linch-pin being Andre of Astora (the blacksmith).

I only have played DS1 and am not finished DS3, but from what I know so far is that Andre is a special npc. He seems to be the only character who physically appeared in previous games (DS1 at least), and in both games he exhibits special properties compared to other npcs: in DS3, I have noticed that he is the only npc who has a talking animation. All the others just stare as their voices are heard by the unkindled, but he moves his mouth. In DS1, I believe he is the only npc who, if killed, will not disappear. Both of these properties means he's either different from others, or developers are consistently trying new things on his 'object' (his presence, or character... it's hard to describe in non-programming terms) and forgetting to remove them (highly unlikely!).

WHY IS HE DIFFERENT? My theory boils down to this: EITHER he is, or is related to the original 'furtive pygmy', OR he comes from the next Age of Darkness. Why? He is always helping the main character to rekindle the flame. Either he feels guilty (if he is the pygmy), or he wants to prevent the future he knows might happen.

HOW IS THIS RELEVANT TO THE MAIN CHARACTER'S ORIGIN? Andre is possibly related to the Chosen Undead (from DS1). If the Chosen Undead were from Astora, he/she might very well have known Andre before being taken to the Asylum and into that region of time. This is another reason Andre would help them. Also, we don't know much about Astora, it might even come during the age of darkness, all we know is that it is a land of badassery. Im not too sure about DS2, but from what I can tell, the Unkindled one and Chosen Undead are very similar, leading me to think they are related very closely, but not the same person. Possibly simply another notable name (but an unknown one) from Astora who gets stuff done, which is why their bloodline keeps getting picked to rekindle the flame.

HOW DOES THIS LINK WITH INFORMATION DESCRIBED IN THIS VIDEO? Eventually this bloodline of champions from Astora was picked for the throne. That would not refute any findings you have dug up (as far as I know), and follow a similar inference as another theory I read here, minutes before I began this essay.

Quote from user 'Dragon Souls': "my theory as to the identity of the main protagonist in Dark Sous 3 is that you are if fact...one of the ancestors(or just strait up parent) of Prince Lorian and Prince Lothric.I believe this as a punishment to a child who ignorantly denied his destiny not listening to his family's "law" so one of his ancestors was resurrected to kill him, motivation being; you(the ancestor) failed in your task to link the fire, and left it for your descendants to link the fire in your stead, but your descendant decided not to, and instead decided to just chill is "your" castle to await the end of fire."

Credit to him for inspiration. Thanks for reading this short essay that i wrote for fun....¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Andre has nothing to do with chosen undead. The chosen undead may be from anywhere, depending on what character you chose, but it's just for aestetic. So doesn't matter what character we chose we are the same: we know nothing and noone. Nut just because we rot in the asylum, but because our past is isolated from the present.

BTW Andre, for a while, was planned to be Gwyn's firstborn, but they didn't finish that part of the story. Like the story of Oscar or Shiva. They just weren't finished. Thus they made the Nameless King Gwyn's firstborn, and Andre was left to be a simple blacksmith.

BUT the part about him being different from a technical viewpoint is a nice realization. He being from the future is a sound theory even tho I don't agree. It's more likely than from DS1 he simply came to the future, to DS3. His friend, the other blacksmith is long gone, but he still remains, without changing. An other possibility is that he's unkindled like us.

But getting back to the video, Lothric didn't link the fire yet, he's not a Lord of Cinder yet. And you have only one motivation: the one you had in DS1 and DS2. *insert LaBeouf meme* Well, every NPC tells you what to do, but ultimately you kill everyone just because you want to. And one other thing: we know the family of Lothric: Gwynevere + Oceiros = :8bitheart:. Gwynevere is the daughter of Gwyn, no chance of being an ancestor there. And I don't really think we can have anything to do with Oceiros.
