No, the game is how it is, for better or worse. Well, you can start with knight, that makes the beginning of the game easier. Other than that, knowing the game mechanics help. How to level up, what does the stats do, etc.

What class did you start with?

Keep trying. No one beats a souls game on their first go. The satisfaction you get from killing the boss that was giving you a hard time makes it all worth it.
If you're serious about refunding though, steam won't accept refunds on games with >2 hours played or >2 weeks since purchase, unless you email support and ask nicely. :)

Then your original statement about this game not being made for you might be true.

if you use mkb you need to make convenient settings for that first of all.

For example, the dodge works when you release the button not when you press it, so you might consider using short press kb or a hardware macros.

Its hard to get into a game you really suck at . I play it get my ass handed to me and quit then go play other games wonder why I spent so much on a game I dont play try it again and stat the process over. again and again

Technically yes there's a difficulty setting,... it starts on normal then gets harder.

The settings are as follows

-Normal
-Harder
- Slightly Harder
- Im doing fine
- That doesn't tickle anymore
- Starting to get difficult
- Thou art needeth a wet nurse
- Hardest

You are welcom,

also that with standard settings some weapon combos will not be avaliable and you really want to get rid of the shift+key default attack key-settings. Really helps to have some additional mouse buttons, I use 6 (not counting the scroll) for example.

Yeah, there's an easy mode. Just summon phantoms and you've enabled it.

Get the Fire Gem as burial gift while starting. Infuse your favorite weapon. This is really the EASY MODE for 1/3 of the game. If you don't have any favorite weapon, long sword is worth it for entire playthrough.

Buy white soap stone at firelink shrine immediately. Use it when you start an area or before meeting a new boss. That way you will get experienced about the area/boss without any penalty. This way makes you earn souls fast too.

Buy the firelink tower key asap. Estus shard, silver serpent ring and estus ring really helps starters. I used white soap stone to assist people at Highwall. That makes earning 20k for the key reasonably fast.

If you fail an encounter, think like "Why it didn't work." or "What should I've done instead." Don't think like "I'm gonna try harder now." This is a tactical combat game. Getting clever goes a long way.

Last but not least, you should buy a controller if you can. This game is really works with one. Souls games alone worth the price of a controller. Also there are many other games too.

Don't give up, git gud!

I have found that the left alt key is good as a dodge/jump if your doing mouse and keyboard. Im pretty sure the default is spacebar. But keep trying these games have a steep learning curve for the first time

I would honestly buy a controller that works with you PC, it wil lmake the game much easier atleast for me and all the friends I talked to about it. BUT yes the series first play through on any DS game will break you. Stay strong and think outside the box! I believe in you
