Ringed City: Aquamarine Dagger + Sorcery meta.
WARNING: WEAPON SPOILER AHEAD FOR RINGED CITY DLC

I remember how excited I was when I first saw that strange blue sword-type weapon in the original Ringed City trailer. Just now I saw the portion of the weird livestream/commentary thing for the dlc where this weapon is shown in action, and I was surprised to see it was the Aquamarine Dagger, and that it has an 18 Int requirement. It wasn't said how the dagger scales when fully upgraded, but I can only imagine it will rely mostly on Intelligence and Dexterity, being a magical dagger.

The weapon art, for those of you who don't know, is to create a sort of short sword out of magic, using the dagger as a hilt/base. Imagine Farron Flashsword, but more badass. This made me think of the possible effects on Sorcery-based builds. Will Farron Flashsword become useless, seeing as the weapon art of the dagger seems to attack very quickly? How will the basis of sorcery builds change? Will full-sorcery builds become less viable, seeing as this weapon appears to deal as much physical damage as magical, and many full-sorcerer players have the Crown of Dusk, giving them less magic absorption?

This weapon seems to be an amazing example of what we can expect in this last Dark Souls III DLC, and I'm curious to see what else FromSoft has done. What are your thoughts?

That's basically it, but it seems to scale with just the stats Sorcerers use, which could change up the sorcery meta

It also means you don't have to use a slot for Flashswods, meaning that's another slot for something else, or stats you can allocate to something else

I for one am gonna definitely Rebirth at Rosalia and put some of my Attunement into Vigor and endurance once I get this thing

By the look of things it's just a fast and shorter farron flashsword that consumes mana for every hit when in lightsaber mode.

Would it be a useful weapon for sorcerers? Sure, (Non-Infused) Sorcery Weapons are always welcome for a sorcerer build (Except if its the Crescent Moon Sword). But I highly doubt it will be meta-changing since pure-sorcerers attack from range when possible. I imagine using the dagger would be slow too, since you either need to 2h it to use the WA (Ideally) or use a WA shield which regardless, you are wasting time turning it on when you could be shooting spells and it might not even be better than flashsword. Regardless, you certainly lose the unpredictability of flashsword/greatsword which is half of its utility.

tl;dr: Unless you always have the WA turned on, you are wasting valuable time preparing for melee in a build that focuses (primarily) on ranged attacks.

Dunno, makes no sense the WA being another type of flashsword

Maybe a catalyst mode? Can't wait 1 week anymore T_T

Also, what's day Steam is announcing to you guys? To me is March 27th

For me the 28th. It's still the same old story. The release is set for the 'murican (east coast) timezone so you will get it on the 27th at around 6/7pm while we in Europe (central) will get it the 28th at midnight (UK at 11pm).

Crescent Moon Sword is one of the best weapons in the game. I never lost a duel using that weapon. And that was a pure int build. Now I'll try a dex-int build, and I'm fairly certain that it'll be a great weapon.

The new DLC weapon I don't know anything about, because I refurse to watch videos about DLC, but even if what OP says it's true, I agree that this sword isn't gonna be meta for sorcerers. Depending on what catalist you use for flashsword it can have bigger range or can confuse enemies like using a weapon catalist like heyzel pick. Flashsword will always be a good spell, and nothing can change that fact.

Dude. Get rid of those title spoilers.

Bigger range-> easier to parry though coz you need to parry a staff, not a flashhword.

It won't change much at all, just a new weapon. The WA is a lot like the Stance WA, wherein you walk slowly until you release L2 or attack using R1 and R2. The damage won't be much compared to a Flashsword, especially when buffed with Dragon Rings, so the speed will be the only benefit.

That, and the range as a dagger will be abysmal. It's best use would be to pressure players trying to get close with its fast attack speed and quite useful WA R2s.

I had hope for this weapon but...

-Probably will have worse damage than farron flashsword, because split damage.
-Less range too, catalyst vs dagger length.
-Weapon doesn't have spellbuff, wich means you can't use it to cast spells. You need to keep changing between 1h-2h for light saber and cast.
-Like Friede's scythe, you need to keep pressing the button then R1/R2, this means no dash/roll attacks unlike farron flashsword. Unless you use the standard dagger attacks, making you lose the range of the light saber.
-Lightsaber mode makes you walk too, making it pretty much useless considering the super passive playstyle most people use in pvp.
