Need help for a bow build.
I want to make a bow-only character, but given the limited amount of ammo you get in DS3 to carry at once, I'm afraid this will need proper crafting.

I've been investigating for hours and everyone concurs on bows being rather underwhelming, but I want to make something work for PvE and, maybe, PvP too.

I don't want quality builds (a.k.a. pick-every-bow-you-find build), and it's only going to be full STR or full DEX, with minimum investment in the other stat.

This is what we get for STR focus:
- Millwood Greatbow allowed.
- Crossbows allowed.
- Bombs allowed.
- Composite bow deals the most damage.

This is what we get for DEX focus:
- Onislayer greabow allowed.
- Few crossbows allowed.
- Knives allowed.
- Black bow deals the most damage.
- Can use riposte weapons in case of trouble (I shouldn't use any melee weapons, that's the point).

I'm not really sure what to do, it looks like the damage from bows won't be enough to progress consistently. Any thoughts?

Dragonrider bow with feather arrows.

I hadn't factored that bow in, it's really slow and it doesn't help being stationary for the most part. I'll throw that bow in and see if it works... However it looks like quality builds shine here.

PS: I'm going to factor in poison and bleed through luck. It doesn't look very appealing, but why not.

luck on a bow build is pretty useless since you cant infuse them dont do it

Can someone donate me a black bow? It shouldn't take long, and I can start playing with a bow right away :steamhappy:

Then again, I look for a build with whom I can clear the game, bows only. (Not counting the tutorial ♥♥♥♥, of course).

I donated a black bow and a composite bow to myself, had a friend who helped me move the items. I have to say the damage in sheerly underwhelming, and even the blackbow does VERY low damage during the early game. I'm talking about enemies dealing 200 damage to me, and I'm dealing less than 100 to them *if* I manage to hit them once, which isn't usually the case.

I'll try the greatbow out as soon as I can afford to carry it, but I don't expect to be using that weapon too often for PvE, which is the main focus.

I think DS2 has better bow potential, even though you have to stand still to use it, but bows deal actual damage and don't have some retarded tiny ammo capacity. In bloodborne you only have 20 bullets, but you have means to replenish bullets throughout the game, and also sacrifice some life to create emergency bullets, I don't know why them ported the ammo limit from Bloodborne but didn't bring in the ammo replenishment feature.

On a side note, arrows are overexpensive FFS. I had an easier time spreading resorces in previous games, even in Demon's souls!

Yeah being able to buy 600 greatbows arrows is really hard. not really just go to ng+ or farm souls

You can actually carry 99 fire arrows, 99 standard, 99 wood arrows etc. You will need to manage arrows in between but you'll be able to use quite a few, the downside being that some aren't available early on. I honestly don't see how this will work without frustration.

Well, although you dont see yourself using too much gr8 bows, honestly is the only way i see to do any decent dmg. If you're using bow the idea anyway would be keeping your distance so standing still on place shouldnt be a problem... if you want to go pseudo-meelee might as well not use bows then...
But hey, it's your challenge run, do as you like.

Also, those might give you some ideas:

[the videos might seems silly, but they actually convey somewhat useful data]
