Is the Crystal Sage's Rapier good for a mage build?
Or am I better off with like a crystal lothric knight sword or something? Or moonlight greatsword? I kinda am far away though on this character from Oceiros so I kinda don't have access to Moonlight greatsword yet.

Some info on this weapon and if its good or not would be appreciated. If its not good I would love some suggestions on what I should wield for my mage.

Crystal Sage Rapier is poor for any build. Moonlight Greatsword is incomparable for a Sorcerer.

Crystal infusions aren't worth it. Just buffing with CMW will be more beneficial for normal weapons, but MLGS is still the best.

Friede's Great Scythes are also very good.

I personally think any weapon can be good, it depends on your playstyle.
if you want, then i can help you get to oceiros a bit faster so you can try out the moonlight greatsword.

If you are a sorceror with very low str/dex, the shortsword is a good option to crystal infuse as it gets S int scaling. Corvian scythe also gets S int scaling for a few more points in str/dex and has bleed making it a decent option.

Otherwise, as mentioned if you have high int, pick anything and put crystal magic weapon on it or just use the mlgs

The Moonlight is an amazing weapon, I had around 650 AR with it using my magic clutch ring and dusk crown. I also had 40 dex and 60 into so my sellswords buffed with CMW had around 630AR

MlGS is a must have main weapon for a mage even with split, dmg it's enough.. Lothric knight sword is also nice with the enchanted s int scaling. The rapier is just for farming.

Really old thread, but after seeing people knock this weapon, I have to post a reply. The weapon can be awesome. All anyone seems to look at is the AR. AR this, AR that. In my experience, daggers can be some of the best weapons in the game, and they hardly have high AR, do they? At the end of the day, as a sorcerer, your best friend is your spells. If an enemy gets close to you, MLGS can be too slow, and chances are you'll have less survivability, so trades will never be in your favour. The Sage's Rapier on the other hand does pretty decent damage, nothing amazing, but you can't compare a sword meant as a melee sidearm for a sorcerer to weapons used by quality builds. If someone charges at you, poke poke. If they roll towards you, poke poke. It's amazing for keeping on pressure, and forces an enemy to stay at range, which is what you want them to do as a mage. The weapon art can also be decent. The light attack has to be used correctly, usually against short weapons, jump away and immediately stab. The heavy, on the other hand, might seem usless, but 80% of the time they'll dodge the stab flurry and get hit with the follow-up thrust, and the CSR has the HIGHEST range out of any rapier in the game, so you'll be able to comfortably outspace and punish most people that use fast weapons, while slow weapon users can be easilt dodged and chipped away with your Great Farron Dart and Great Soul Arrow (a hugely underestimated spell for PvP) I usually main sorcerer builds, and the CSR has been my baby for a long time, to the point where I consistently beat melee builds even when using pure melee, no spells, just the rapier. Just chip away at them, and they'll go down. It's miniscule weight is also a huge upside, because staying under 30% equip load is REALLY beneficial as a mage, allowing you to easily evade most attacks and create the distance needed to use your magic. In a game overflowing with people who put all their hopes into heavy armour, shields, and as much hp as possible, this is amazing. Trust me, no matter how hard they try, they'll never be able to close the distance, so long as you don't get greedy with your attacks. All in all, it's THE best melee weapon for a sorcerer, in my opinion. Not necessarily for PvE, for certainly for PvP, in fact it's so good, that I used my first slab on it rather than on my catalyst. Use it, love it, name your babies after it. Aside from that, there's always the goold old Farron Flashsword, though it's basically a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ version of a longsword, with useless rolling and running attacks, and a significant startup delay on the first swing. Still, it can be pretty good in a pinch, as long as you don't try to actually rely on it.
