Why the soul of cinder is not a great boss.
Its RNG. If you get the magic phase immediatelyafter his first phase, you can easily chip away half his health. On the other hand, if you get the curved sword right away, you will not get very far. Not only is his curved sword completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, as it is very much impossible to dodge at times, is his ability to buff himself to do way more damage, which is just a bit ridiculous. This would still be do-able as long as you could doge certain combos with the curved sword, but one move in specific where he sort of does a double barrel roll and swings his sword back on the ground will always it you, no matter where you dodge. His initial sword stage in the beginning is very easy, his magic phase is a complete joke, and if he were like that the whole time the fight would be over in one minute, his lance stage can be a bit tough but it is still fair as it is actually dodgable, but the curved sword is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I have only gotten to his second stage a few times, and I think he looks easier where he sticks with his normal sword, but I have barely made it to that point. All in all, any advice on how to deal with that curved sword would be great.

Curved sword phase? You mean the 'stay out of range til the next phase' phase?

Unless you have phantoms, a good idea is to sprint around and wait til he goes to next phase, which takes about a minute

Well, it's a bad boss because it's just not creative. It's like the development team said, "Hey let's make it seem like a Gwyn fight except giving him a Trick Weapon from Bloodborne and every kind of magic! Remember how everybody used Power Within to kill all bosses? Well, now we'll give this boss that magic, too!" Derp. All 3 Dark Souls have terrible endgame bosses.

I never actually realized this. Even Demon Souls last boss was a joke (unless you consider the false king the final boss - he was pretty sweet). Given all the great bosses along the way, it's kind of a shame. Hopefully the final DLC will have a few good ones.

Ofc all the bosses were ♥♥♥♥ at the end. That's the whole point of the damn story. They all are worthless. In the end, all their triumphs, their sacrifices, their hardships, it's all meaningless. Just like the bossfights. They're not supposed to be this epic huge bossfight. They're supposed to represent the world of Dark Souls. Which is a cycle. A kingdom/king rises, and a kingdom/king falls. It's a parallel of the real world. The greek states rose to power, they fall. The roman empire rises, it falls. Egypt rises and it falls. Every known civilaztion rises to power then falls drastically. That's what Dark souls is about. How, no matter how much power you have, no matter how strong you get, you will always fall.
