What's with the lack of Onionbros?
You'd think that the Catarina set would be more popular because of how badass Squidward Siegward is.

They did make the set heavy as buggery though, I´ve a catarina knight and I had to sacrifice a lot of viability to get enough vitality to use it effectively, and then there´s the eternal clipping issues plaguing the armour since Ds1.

Nah. I like Siegmeyer infinitely more as a character, but Siegward is the bigger badass. He helps your unkindled ass kill a fire demon AND can slay Yhorm on is own. Siegmeyer only goes into badass mode at the end of his questline, and unlike Siegward, will become an expired vegetable if you don't help.

The reason for that is that onion set is one of the heaviest in the game. Like top 5 or something.
And since defenses and heavy armor in this particular game have very limited effects - people just go for quality builds, which means no vitality to wear Onion's.

It's the same reason why there's so few Havels, Exiles and Smough's.
Its just inpractical not to mention you are going to be limited exclusively to strength-only weapons.
Also SL120 does not have enough stats to support a viable heavy build. You'll have to go 130 and higher just in order to get that bonus vitality.
Or you'll have to sacrifice health / stamina. Which is unacceptable since it cripples the heavy builds who need as much of both as possible.

Like, i would totally wear it, but i'll have to create a separate character for it since my current cosplay does not supports onion's armor aesthetically.

If Poise was a thing, there would be onion bros. Sure, fashion souls is a thing, but still, most people wont go over 150 and with something that requires 40-60 point investment for close to no actual benefit... It just wont happen.

Well to be fair there is poise and right now its the only actualy legit reason to wear heavy armor.
And onion armor provides a plenty making sure you wont get staggered without a good reason.
Havel's ring also recommended.
Siegmeyer was great, and a badass, he only fought at the end of his questline because you've done everything he wanted to do, he could never show off, even if he was a great knight, his fate was to live under your actions and go hollow, in the despair of trying to show you that he could do something, he wanted to fight those "dire fiends while you slip away on the confusion".

Siegward is great too, the knights of Catarina sure are wonderful people.

I wish we could see catarina ourselves. It seems like a land of noble and honorable people.
My friend thinks that catarina is a straight-up germany. Their accent, their looks, their obsession with alhocol (siegward that is) and the fact that their favorite weapon of choice is zweihander

Armour need to give enough defence to make it a viable option over the other stats for defence alone. Wearing it needs to give enough survival that you don't need the poise benefit to make it useful. Until then its always going to be relegated to fanatics and cosplay because of how limiting it is for no good reason.

Poise works well enough, though it could use some other applications which just means more hyper frame windows in places to stop knights from getting knocked around and stunlocked. Even then the rolls are so crazy in this game that your stuck using it below 70% which makes the compensation required tricky.

All in all its because all heavy armour is a liability in DS3 atm. Even with weapons to use poise the speed and rolls and etc make said heavy weapons their own kind of liability for very little payoff. Nothing about an onion bro or havel cosplay is working properly atm. Everything they rely on is gimped.

Also, "Sieg" is German for "victory", "meyer" is based on a common German surname "Meier", and "Bräu" is German for "brew". It's clear as day that Catarina is Dark Souls' version of Germany.
