Best heavy weapon for both PVE and PVP?
Hey guys, I'm starting another char, for a more brute build.

In the entire series I never played a lot with really big weapons, so, can you recommend a heavy weapon good for both PVE and PVP?

It can be a UGS, Axe or Great hammer.

I was reading a little about the Astora UGS, and it looks like a nice option. But I would like to know more, if possible.

One thing I can give you as an advice: Practically all greater weapons are close to useless for PvE means
They do comparably low damage entirely inappropriate to their size and weight, which is even outright lower than some examples of smaller weapons, their attacks are slow and since you have basically infinite rolls you could roll out of ANY greater weapon should you face one, and also they're laughably easy to parry if you dare to one-hand them, and looking at the amount of parry-spammers recently using a greater weapon one handed is less smart than using a broken straight sword
There are only a few examples that are anyhow useful (judging by the fact that you see them more in PvP than others), such as the great club because of its R2, profaned ultra-greatsword because it comes with included fire damage and a free fire buff, dragonslayer greataxe because it simply is one of the weapons with the most AR, or black knight greataxe/ultra greatsword because their AR makes them often chosen by parry fishing hornet ring users, but the "normal" ones like the Zweihander are kind of neglegible

For PvE however they can be amazingly good weapons in their entirety, as many of them have unique attributes from one another which can greatly aid you if you need to be situational; the spiked mace from the evangelists can do horribly much bleeding damage, the astora xl ultra-greatsword can do thrusting attacks which can launch enemies far off and keep them at bay, the demon greataxe has a devastating weapon art, and so on and so forth
If you invest enough stamina as well, you can output a few more attacks which usually stagger the vast majority of enemies, especially the annoying fast moving ones like Carthus grave wardens or jumpy ADHD face humper ghrus

Overall I'd advise you to try the weapons out one by one, and find one that suits your build or playstyle, as ultras, greataxes and greathammers vary greatly from one another too

As a personal recommendation: Use ultras as first because for me they've been the easiest greater weapons to get used to and because they have seemingly the least requirements, such as the Astora XL. Also they almost all have wide sweeping movesets which can cover a large area, something that greataxes or greathammers don't have (at least their R1/R2 do not in my book). For them either way I'd recommend the spiked mace because of its moveset, or the black knight greataxe with one hand as it also has a sweeping moveset unlike other greataxes

Every Greatweapon rules the game. Hyperarmour is too strong. My favourites are the Profaned Greatsword, Black Knight Greataxe, Lothric Knight Ultra Greatsword, Dragonslayer Greataxe, etc.

You joking? Not only can the Lothric Knight Ultra Greatswor reach 1400 AR when buffed, but every greatweapon has something smaller ones don't; hyper armour.

Great weapons rule the game? Is that why I almost never see other people using them?

Every small weapon has something greatweapons don't: speed.

BKGA is pretty good so is the GS.

Also what Hat Skeleton said any greatsword or axe is good because they hit hard and have a lot of hyperarmor.

I used to see majority people use a GS or an axe.

Speed literally doesn't matter... Because if you're trying to counter attack a Greatweapon, you aren't going to win. Plain and simple. Unless you have the HIGHEST poise damage none-greatweapon in the game (The Reinforced Club), it would take about 3 consecutive hits to break the Hyperarmour even on Greatswords. Also, you do see people using them. It's a fact that they are in the meta, and always have been.

Best UGS imo is the Profaned Greatsword. Amazing AR and good ability to just straight one-shot with the Leo Ring.
Otherwise, I would use Dragonslayer (Greatsword, the one that looks like Gut's sword).
But strictly Greatsword wise, Claymore is never a bad choice. Onyx Greatsword is neat and powerful with Dark.

Astora Greatsword isn't heavy really. It's super light for an UGS, and has the lowest damage if I know correctly. But it's also very fast, and pretty hard to counter. It shares a two-handed R2 with the same moveset as Greatlances, which is very cool.

This. Leo ring counters almost guarantee to one shot everyone below 1200 HP.

The Black Knight Greataxe is the fastest greataxe and fastest none-greatsword weapon afaik, the one handed moveset is VERY fast. It also has a pretty nice brutish look. Another good "brute" weapon is the base Greataxe, which looks like something a viking berserker would be lobbing around.

If you have the DLC, the Earth Seeker is litterally a moldy, rusty, old twin-headed viking axe, wielded by Millwoods, which litterally are vikings. http://darksouls3.wiki.fextralife.com/Earth+Seeker Just look at it. JUST LOOK AT IT.

And that AOE for the special is pretty large. I'd use it if it came down to it. (I just never really use axes)

All the Millwood weapons are way too cool. The Millwood Axe is also very good for a burtish looking style, but is only a regular axe. (Still borked as hell though, 600+ AR on an axe? Really FS?)
