difference between pine resin and weapon buffs
i was woundering why put alot of souls into faith and that stuff just to be able to use lightning blade mircales and that stuff. there is golden pine resin which give the weapon lightning damage but there is also golden pine resin which should do the same thing, right? im using lightning blade and golden pine resin as an example but others like dark blade and human pine resin, and carthus flame arc and charcoal pine resin. can someone please tell me how they work exactly beacuse i got 30 in faith just so i can use lightning blade but i can also buy infinate amount of golden pine resin from that chick at the shrine. the golden pine resin only costs like 1000 souls or something and i could really put those 30 faith stats into something like dex or hp.

With high stats spell bufs give more damage than resins, and you don't need to keep buying them.

With only 30 faith lightning blade is around 30+ damage compared with a gold pine resin, so it's not really worth it unless you don't have any other place to put those points.

Buff spells put more damage of that type onto the weapon than resins would

Let's take a lightning based example

A golden pine resin only adds 95 lightning damage, which is relatively neglegible especially end-game

The Lightning Blade miracle however, adds 0.96 times the spell buff of the chime or talisman you use onto your weapon, so if you have one that has, let's say, 200 spell buff, that adds up to 192 lightning damage, way more than the resin adds

Also I reckon that with enough FP and ashen estus flasks, you could use the miracle more than the maximum of 5 times the resin allows you (at once)

The only reason to use the resins therefore, is when you don't have the stats for the spells, or you want to either rotten or red pine resin for poison/bleed

(Also some spells have buffs that don't exist in pine resin form, for example Blessed Weapon, Darkmoon Blade etc.)

so i should take those 30 stats out of faith and put them to better use and keep buying resin? if the spells do a larger amount of damage then the resin then i'll keep the 30 in faith but if its only a little then those 30 stats are being put to better use.

If you cast other miracles then why not have a spell buff too? And you can always put more points into faith.
