The Legion Etiquette gesture doesn't work while 2 handing the Farron Greatsword
How did this happen. It's literally the sword and dagger made to be used with the gesture yet YOU PUT AWAY THE DAGGER WHEN YOU DO THE GESTURE HOW IS THIS A THING.

Programming is hard.
Then again the dagger doesn't dissapear when you do a hornet ring riposte...

Its weird indeed.

You ripost with a Scythe by jamming the dullest and least dangerous part of it through someone's chest.

Yeah, Fromsoft programmers are lazy af.

Where's my whip backstab where I knock their legs out and strangle them with a whip?

Because it would take too long to backstab

Relevant; weapons in the offhand apply to the gesture but not weapons currently being dual wielded via 2 hand.

W-what? But why? What is the reason behind this?

Just like great scythe backstabs.

But could you just imagine how silly it would look like to be strangled by a whip in 1 second? How would that do damage?

Hornet ring heavy weapon riposte takes like 5 second. And it doesn't have to "strangle" it could be just a quick neck-snap.
simple awnser.
FROM.

Think about it: Legion Etiquette doesn't work with the said Legion's weapon, Reapers still have lame critical animations BUT
BUT
They added the Bloodborne critical to fists (on large enemies or non-humanoids).

1) toss whip over neck
2) twist whip
3) turn body
4) body throw over shoulder

About 2-3 seconds, tops.

Now that we're on the subject, I want to share my fantasy of how riposts should work for each weapon type:

Daggers:

Regular- Embrace opponent placing left hand on the back of the neck and lovingly jam the dagger in his chest (1 hit)
Hornet- Grab opponent by the hair/helment/hood and yank his body backwards (so that his back arches), proceed to stab violently in the chest twice in quick succession followed by a slower and stronger stab for massive damage.

Straight Swords/piercing swords/greatswords:

As in game

Curved Swords:

Regular- Charge diagonal two handed swing (from right to left) and slice opponent from right shoulder to left pelvis.
Hornet- Stab opponent in the crotch with blade's edge upwards, followed by a upward body cut to left clavicle, spin and slash chest for massive damage.

Katanas:

Regular- Hold weapon at head level parallel to floor. Stab through head halfway down the length of the blade.
Hornet- Same as regular, then pull back blade and follow up with a downwards slash from head to crotch.

Fist/Claws:

As in game (for Hornet ripost on claws, instead of the necksnapping third hit stab face at eye level).

Axes/hammers/greataxes/ultra greatswords:

As in game

Greathammers:

Regular- Headbutt opponents face to stun followed by a jumping attack, flattening opponent to the ground.
Hornet- Headbutt opponents face to stun, follow with golfswing to send opponent flying. Finish with "perseverance-like" stab to chest once opponent lands on the floor.

Spears/pikes/halberds:

Regular: Stab opponent through the chest and charge for a short distance, pull weapon out violently as opponent falls backwards.
Hornet- Stab opponent through chest and charge a short distance, bring spear upwards to impale opponent for a second and pull weapon out violently, causing great damage.

Reapers/Scythes:

Regular- Strike opponents face with butt of weapon to stun, follow with a quick neck-swipe.
Hornet- Strike opponents face with butt of weapon to stun, quickly get behind opponent and hit back of knees to bring down. End by wrapping the length of the blade on opponents neck from behind and pulling violently.

Whips:
Regular- Wrap whip on opponents neck and pull while pushing opponent back with right foot. (Quick, low damage multi-hit as he chokes)
Hornet- Wrap whip on opponents neck and swing overhead, smashing him into the ground. Repeat this 3 times in quick succession.

That's what I would like to see from riposts, instead of the same recycled animations over and over.

Feel free to critic/praise/suggest.
